Rampante is one of Etnas grand cru vineyards and this comes from a different parcel to the Rampante that goes into Archineri Rosso. Notes of dried strawberry, tea and spice with a backbone of pronounced acidity and minerality.

Girolamo Russo Calderara Sottana Nerello Mascalese, Etna

Girolamo Russo Calderara Sottana is a Nerello Mascalese (the iconic red grape of Etna) with a smoky mineral purity indicative of the black pumice in which it grows. Incredible depth and rich perfume of strawberries, balsamic, cherry and rose. This wine is at once fresh and ripe, capturing remarkable fruit concentration. The 2017 marked the inaugural vintage of this wine. In 2005, Giuseppe Russo was drawn back to his childhood home on Sicilys Mount Etna to make wine. Named after his late father, he creates elegant and expressive wines that speak of the volcanos incredibly varied terroir. The crus (or contrade) in which Russo grows his grapes are among the finest on Etnas north side, and he conducts all of his production organically.

Girolamo Russo Feudo di Mezzo is a concentrated and complex Etna Rosso with exciting intensity. It is a single vineyard Nerello made from vines over a century old in one of Etnas prime contrada. The fruit is dark and brooding, with velvety tannins and a voluptuous mouthfeel balanced with harmonious acidity. From two contrade in Solicchiata, Rampante and Zottorinoto, Archineri is the most muscular and robust of these three wines. Intense and complex aromas of strawberry and cherry fruit with balsam, tea and spice, the palate rich and full bodied with fine tannins and a long finish.

Domaine des Bosquets Le Plateau Gigondas

Gigondas is a small appellation that sits inside the broader Southern Rhone wine region - it is famous for producing exceptional grenache dominant red blends, the best of which go toe-to-toe with Rhone powerhouse Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The Domaine des Bosquets ‘Le Plateau’ is, first and foremost, a commanding wine. It is richly fruited, baked (but not jammy) red fruits and deeply ripe toover ripe black currant, brample and blood plum. Clove and fennel mix with tobacco and wet earth to round out what is a distinctly powerful wine. It has had enough down-time to find itself in the right drinking spot, but there’s no rush, you’ve easily got ten years to drink this, and that’s being conservative. Realistically, you could crack one of these beauties beyond 2040 and still be in for a marvelous time.
