Paul Nelson De Taillevent Arneis

Arneis is so well suited to the Australian palate, it's a pity we don't see more of it. This is peachy, honeyed, nutty, and with a softer, broader acidity that provides freshness but doesn't overwhelm the wine. This is medium bodied pushing into full; there is distinct fruit weight that is satisfying on the palate. The appeal of arneis, for me, is it's ability to slip into any moment, sit with any meal, and please any punter - it is a tried and true crowd pleaser, and we love it for that.

Pertinace Langhe Arneis

The Pertinace winery is located in the locality of the same name, in Treiso, Piedmont, one of the four municipalities of the Langhe famous for the production of Barbaresco DOCG and also known as the birthplace of Publio Elvio Pertinace, valorous soldier and Roman Emperor, who was born here in 126 A.D. Pertinace as a place name is a thousand years old. The wines produced follow the trend of the Piedmontese wine tradition characterised by a classic and elegant style. Founded in 1973 by Mario Barbero, the Winery was a winegrowers cooperative of thirteen members from the Treiso area with an innovative, ground-breaking idea to create a business that could first grow superior grapes and then put a great new brand onto the market, with one eye on quality and the other on the tastes of the evolved consumer. They decided to concentrate on Nebbiolo grapes to make high quality Barbaresco, bottling and marketing it under the name 'Cantina Vignaioli Elvio Pertinace'. The name of the winery was then changed to 'Cantina Pertinace', and in January 2016, the number of members increased to 20, with a total of 110 hectares under vines (mainly Nebbiolo, but also Dolcetto, Barbera d’Alba, Moscato and Chardonnay) and production of 650,000 bottles. Since 1973, the winery has never stopped developing and growing. Cantina Pertinace wines are part of traditional Piedmont winemaking at its purest - from care of the vineyards, looked after personally by the contributing members, to the winemaking and ageing processes, the production of Barbaresco, Nebbiolo d’Alba, Dolcetto and Barbera d’Alba is oriented towards a classic, elegant style. Production and refining areas of the wines reflect the traditional philosophy such as tall stainless steel tanks contrasting with aisles of great 40 to 105 hectolitre wooden casks where ageing occurs in cool, quiet half-light. All crus are produced following the same rules without exception as they rest in great casks for 18 months. Despite their similar gestation processes, the resultant wines have very different personalities, strongly influenced by the differences in terroir and constant care and great attention to detail in the vineyards. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014, the vineyards of Langa, Roero and Monferrato are, to quote the words of the World Heritage List, an outstanding living testimony to winegrowing and winemaking traditions that stem from a long history. The 110 hectares of vineyard are scattered throughout Treiso, Barbaresco, Alba, Neviglie, Piobesi d’Alba and Magliano Alfieri in Cuneo Province, and Agliano Terme in Asti Province. The Langhe Arneis is made with grapes coming from vineyards in Treiso. The vineyards have a southerly aspect and acreage of 2.5 hectares. This wine undergoes temperature controlled vinification for 10-12 days in steel tanks followed by a 5 month ageing period in stainless steel on lees. A straw yellow with greenish shades and vibrant fruity aromas of pears and exotic fruits, white flowers and citrus hints. The palate is fresh, soft and elegant.

Vietti Roero Arneis

Fresh floral, citrus and melon aromas with hints of almond. An unoaked, dry, medium bodied white wine with crisp acidity, the Arneis is well-balanced, elegant wine with good complexity and a lingering finish. As an aperitif with light hors d'oeuvres, crudités, seafood, salads, light soups, simply prepared veal, pork, chicken and creamy cheese. Pale straw yellow colour. 100% Arneis The history of the Vietti winery traces its roots back to the 19th Century. Only at the beginning of the 20th century, however, did the Vietti name become a winery offering its own wines in bottle. From 1919 Patriarch Mario Vietti began making the first Vietti wines, selling most of the production in Italy. His most significant achievement was to transform the family farm, engaged in many fields, into a grape-growing and wine-producing business. Then, in 1952, Alfredo Currado (Luciana Viettis husband) continued to produce high quality wines from their own vineyards and purchased grapes. The Vietti winery grew to become one of the top-level producers in Piemonte and was one of the first wineries to export its products to the USA market. Alfredo was one of the first to select and vinify grapes from single vineyards (such as Brunate, Rocche and Villero). This was a radical concept at the time, but today virtually every vintner making Barolo and Barbaresco wines offers single vineyard or cru-designated wines. Alfredo is also called the father of Arneis as in 1967 he invested a lot of time to rediscover and understand this nearly-lost variety. Today Arneis is the most famous white wine from Roero area, north of Barolo. Setting such a fine example with Arneis, even fellow vintners as far away those on the west coast of the United States now are cultivating and producing Arneis!

Ceretto Langhe D.O.C. Arneis Blangé

Blangè is the white side of Piedmontese wines; a product that defined an era, revolutionizing Langhe winemaking that was previously devoted exclusively to red grapes. It is the product of a highly distinctive region, the Roero, and a desire to improve varietal recognition, as well as drinking pleasure. Blangè combines sustainable practices in the vineyard with a modern take. Fruit and minerality, aromatics and balanced freshness, coexist in this white wine that has made enjoyment and versatility its trademark.

Bruno Giacosa Roero Arneis

One of Italy's greatest winemakers, Bruno Giacosa is most famous for Nebbiolo wines, but this Arneis from the Roero zone, probably the homeland of this variety, shows a matching brilliance with whites. Regarded as one the best versions of this tasty (but tricky) whites, it shows all the best attributes, with fresh racy aromatics of herb and lemon leaf, along with good texture, the vital grip and enlivening zip.
