Langton's Classification: Exceptional

Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier began its life after a career defining trip to the Côte-Rôtie in the mid 90s which set Tim Kirk on the journey towards producing one of Australia's best Shiraz. Determined to show that Australia could produce elegant but still powerful Shiraz, Tim's work has paid off with his flagship being acclaimed worldwide. In only 15 years, the Shiraz Viognier has attained 'Exceptional' status with Langton's, the highest possible.

Moppity Vineyards Lock & Key Shiraz

Nick O'Leary Bolaro Shiraz

Complex aromas of white pepper, fennel seed and freshly cut red fruits. The alluring sweetness reveals itself fully albeit integrated with the wines, spicy, savoury character and beautiful tight but silky tannins. A single vineyard wine sourced from the Fischer vineyard. Grapes were hand harvested at 13 Baume and processed into 1.5tonne open fermenters with 45% whole-bunches, balance whole berries. Matured in 35% new French barriques (Troncais forrest) balance in seasoned French barriques for 10 months. Bottled in March 2018. His wines have received high profile recognition at a national and international level including the prestigious Stodart Trophy in 2014 and the NSW Wine of the Year in both 2014 and 2015 the latter being the first and only time in the awards 20-year history that the accolade has been received multiple times by a single producer, let alone in consecutive years.

Nick O'Leary Shiraz

Whenever we taste a blind Shiraz line up where this wine is featured, it's hard not to be lured into its enticing character of purity and style. Hauntingly akin to a Northern Rhone example, violets, spice, wild herb and earth wrap around a delicious core of red fruits and plum. Bravo Nick O'Leary. 'Canberra's benign 201213 growing season produced, in abundance, grape quality not seen in the much cooler, wetter 2011 and 2012 vintages. Our exciting 2013 reds include Nick O'Leary's shiraz a jaw dropper that kept judges gaping as they piled gongs on it at the 2014 Royal Brisbane Wine Show. They gave it a gold medal, then three trophies: best one-year-old red of the show (Stoddart trophy), best shiraz of the show and best red of the show. This is a significant achievement for Canberra shiraz and not just for O'Leary. It provides yet more recognition, in a hotly contested national event, of our region's distinctive style. O'Leary's highly perfumed, medium-bodied wine shows the vibrant red berry- and-spice character of cool-grown shiraz on a luscious, silky palate, cut with fi ne tannins. This is a lot of wine at a modest price.' (2013 Vintage) - 4½ Stars. - Canberra Times, 03 Sep 2014.

Altera Terra Corda Pinot Noir Shiraz

Altera Terra Corda Pinot Noir Shiraz, Murrumbateman Corda: Winemaker Doug Neals passion for Burgundy and reverence for traditional Australian styling is etched in his Corda cuvée, meaning hearts. It draws on the legacy of the great Maurice OShea and his parade of Australian Burgundy, blending 70% Pinot Noir with 30% Shiraz. It is translucent of hue, red fruited, savoury of personality, diaphanous of texture and succulent from attack to its persistent glide, long across the palate. Think red cherry, damson plum, bergamot and Asian five-spice. Each glass sees the wine shape-shift, becoming juicier, suave and richer in time. The trajectory for ageing is prodigious, although it is difficult to stop after tasting the first bottle! 'it is clear that Neals new domain is stamped with the postcode of cult in the making.'- Ned Goodwin MW

Table of Plenty Sangiovese
