Maison Les Alexandrins is a collaboration between two renowned winegrowers from the Rhone Valley - Nicolas Jaboulet and Alexandre Caso. Their wines are crafted in a signature style that is at once contemporary and timeless, and always from exceptional vineyards unearthed by Alexandre Caso, a specialist in the terroirs of the Northern Rhone. A blend of 60% Grenache Blanc, 30% Viognier, and 10% Marsanne. The fruit sourced from the low altitude vineyards provide crispness and delicacy, while the hillside vineyards bring density and richness from their granitic soils. Beautiful pale-yellow colour with shiny reflections. Combining freshness and deliciousness, the nose is seductive with aromas of ripe pears and candied quince, highlighted by spicy notes of anise. The palate reveals a beautiful balance and roundness with a tangy aromatic lift, which evolves into pastry and juicy fruit aromas. With great length, the finish presents a lovely texture which brings liveliness.

A blend of 60% Grenache Noir and 40% Syrah sourced from hillside terraces rich in quartz and limestone marls, vinified and matured in wooden and stainless steel vats for 8 months. Beautiful deep red colour with purple reflections. This wine opens up with a powerful and expressive nose with toasted notes, and the Syrah bringing a bouquet of red fruit. On the palate, it reveals elegance and richness through fine tannins that balance the opulent notes of very ripe black fruit, typical Syrah spices and a superb long finish.

Brokenwood Shiraz is a ripe and generous Shiraz with lifted cherry and mint aromas nicely balanced with sweet chocolate notes on the nose and a soft rich palate with savoury cedary flavours and fine grained tannins on the finish.

From Orange in NSW, this Shiraz is a good introduction to the qualities of this emerging area. It shows aromas of plum and spices and the palate is all about the fruit with little intrusive oak.
