Winemaker Paul Gordon is making good use of the beautifully sited mature Hamilton vineyards to produce superb McLaren Vale reds such as this ripe robust deeply flavoured Cabernet.

Geoff Merrill Cabernet Sauvignon

This class cabernet has deep red colour with purple hues indicating the freshness and quality to come. Aromas of leafy mint with complex capsicum and cedar with ripe berry notes adding complexity with firm tannins and well balanced acid leading to a long finish.

Wirra Wirra Church Block Cabernet Shiraz Merlot

Church Block first appeared back in 1972 under the watchful eye of Greg Trott and was taken by one of the original vineyards that ran alongside the small Bethany Church, across the road from Wirra Wirra's old ironstone cellars. Over the last 4 decades, it has become one of Australia's favourites. The 2005 Church Block is showing just what a little patience can do. After six years, the velvet texture is the dominant feature with integrated tannin taking a backseat.

Bleasdale Broad-Side Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec

This is the great Australia red blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Malbec. The wine displays plum, blackcurrant, chocolate and boysenberry spice, and a juicy palate with persistent flavour and smooth velvety tannins. Bleasdale is not only one of the oldest wineries in the Langhorne Creek region, but one of the oldest in Australia. Frank Potts, who founded Bleasdale in 1850, has a fascinating history. Born with sea legs, he joined the British Royal Navy at 9 years old and served on Lord Nelsons famous ship HMS Victory. He sailed around the world before landing in South Australia in 1836. He planted the first vines in 1858 and sold fruit to Thomas Hardy. He then expanded the vineyards in the 1860s. He was an innovator and a pioneer who played his role in establishing Australias wine industry. The Potts family still own Bleasdale and descendants Michael and Ben Potts handle the winemaking duties, along with Paul Hotker. They make wines from fruit grown on their 61 hectares of vineyards from varietals like Verdelho, Shiraz and Malbec in sparkling, table and fortified styles. Each parcel of fruit is carefully selected to produce a range of wines that can be enjoyed immediately, or cellared for that special occasion.

A hint of white flowers and a touch of minerality contribute to the wine's overall elegance. Palate: On the palate, this Pinot Grigio delights with its light to medium body and lively character. The ripe fruit flavors from the nose come to life, delivering a burst of juicy pear and green apple. The wine's vibrant acidity invigorates the taste buds, providing a refreshing and mouthwatering experience. Finish: The Pinot Grigio leaves a clean and lingering finish, with the fruit flavors slowly tapering off, leaving a subtle hint of citrus and a refreshing aftertaste.

Lake Breeze Langhorne Creek Cabernet Sauvignon

Jane Faulkner is bang on about this two-time Gold medal-winning, 95pt red when writing in The Halliday Wine Companion: "Aside from being a steal, this is a classy Cabernet. Fruit off vines hovering around 45 years, aged in French barriques, 30% new and aged 20 months all up. It’s made with intent, it’s made well and it highlights cassis and blackberries dipped in choc-mint, sweet spices and cedary oak … The palate is well composed and filled with textural tannins, fresh acidity and more besides. Enjoyment writ large here. 95pts. Great Value” It also won Gold at the local Langhorne Creek Wine Show. For John Lehmann witing in The Astralian this is: "A classic Cabernet unfurls here with cedar, blackcurrant, cassis and spearmint on the nose, then a concentrated palate offering blackcurrant fruit pastilles, mint and savoury, herbal notes on the finish. The tannins are firm but decanting will help bring out the fruit." We love Lake Breeze, but don't take our word for it... “The quality of the Lake Breeze wines is exemplary, with the red wines particularly appealing ...” (James Halliday). “Like Greg Follett, the Lake Breeze wines are unassuming but quietly impressive. Never doubt the value they represent...” (Peter Forrestal, Gourmet Traveller Wine). The winery has gone from strength to strength with Greg Follett heading the Lake Breeze winemaking team. Lake Breeze has been named Australia’s Champion Small Winery at the Australian Small Winemakers Show, and has won Champion Wine four times. Elsewhere it can boast well over 25 trophies and 125 Golds. In 2023 Lake Breeze won Best Value Winery of the Year in Halliday’s Wine Companion, and Greg Follett was shortlisted as Winemaker of the Year 2024.

Full of life and vigour with the typical regional chocolate and mocha characters, this McLaren Vale Cab is a perfect little cellar starter or great paired with lamb shanks.
