The überblanc Riesling is attributed to a über 2001 vintage, winemaker Nick Glaetzer experienced in the Pflaz region of Germany, learning first hand some of the award winning techniques used by their winemakers. The resultant cooler temperatures encourage a longer ripening period that is essential for producing superior Riesling grapes. Made by renowned winemaker Louisa Rose, the Rieslings of Pewsey Vale have a distinct lime character together with florals and a touch of spice. When young they are vibrant and tight with upright acidity. As the wines age, they gain complexity with honeyed tones, but they are very long-lived, so patience is a must!

Von Buhl’s entry-level wine is drawn from the estate’s great sandstone-rich vineyards around the villages of Deidesheim, Forst and Ruppertsberg. All the vineyards are certified organic. In the cellars, most of the juice is naturally fermented in tank, with some parcels fermented in Von Buhl's oval dopplestück oak casks. Even at this level, the wine’s upbringing includes extended lees aging (six months on gross lees). There is no pumping, and very low sulphur additions. This is a juicy, mineral-rich Riesling, with the extra palate weight of the vintage proving a perfect foil for the rocky texture, mouth-watering, citrus-edged acidity and near-absolute-dry finish. It will, as always, work wonders by the glass (and bottle).

Henschke Julius is a classic expression of Eden Valley Riesling. An almost perfect vintage has provided the citrus blossom and lime aromas and an intense minerally structure which will develop for a decade at least.
