Deep rich red showing a youthful purple rim. Lifted notes of blackberry, chocolate and spice, with secondary characters of blueberry, leather and soy provides a complex and intense introduction to the wine. The palate is full bodied, displaying classic spice and ripe berry notes, integrated oak and concentration for which Australian Shiraz is renowned. It has spice and savoury notes with plentiful ripe succulent tannins on the finish.

McLaren Vale is well known for its ability to make full bodied red wines, in particular concentrated Shiraz, and this deluxe wine is a perfect example.Deep, dark red. After almost three decades of shared experience in the wine industry, Bernice Ong and Julian Forwood decided to have a crack at their own venture sourcing fruit mainly from high quality vineyards in McLaren Vale to produce wines under their Ministry of Clouds label. This stellar example of Grenache is comprised 8 different Grenache ferments with varying amounts of whole bunch ranging from a couple of whole berry ferments to the highest being 28% whole bunch, skin time varying between 3 to 6 weeks. The 8 ferments are off four vineyards - three of which all neighbour each other in Blewitt Springs. One planted in 1930, another in 1939 and the last is believed to be planted in 1940s. These 3 vineyards make up 82% of the blend. The last component is from the oldest part of the Smart vineyard in Clarendon planted in 1920. Maturation took place in large old oak for 6 months. A Grenache of phenomenal intensity and power. Vibrant dark red coloured core with black shaded edges and a light purple red hue. Wafting from the glass with a perfumed like intensity are intoxicating aromas of dark raspberries, ripe cherries and red liquorice that are infused with an intriguing mix of fresh herbs and rose petals. Subtle vanillin earth and spice notes are also evident. Carrying only light to medium body, the palate has a power without weight quality, juicy dark raspberry, red liquorice and red cherry fruits unfolding like a never ending peacocks tail to deliver superb depth. Magnificent purity of fruit and with its concentration on another level. Lingering underneath are some vanillin confectionary, earth and subtle spicy pepper characters. Fresh acidity and a sturdy matrix of tannins provide a fine boned structure. Concludes with an explosively long, succulently fruited finish. Drink over the next 6-8 years. Alc. 14.7%

Name ‘Paralarva’ is essentially the younger sibling of the ‘Squid Ink’ range. Paralarvaare young squidin the planktonic stages between hatchling and subadult. It represents a style that is more about expression of fruit with a minimal influence of oak and is a wine to be enjoyed in a more youthful state. This fruit driven style has becoming more popular in recent years from all growing districts around Australia. Vineyard This Estate owned single vineyard really is the epitome of what defines one of the greatest vineyards in Australia, where the famous Black Bay of Biscay Clay soil ensures fantastic depth of colour and concentration. Positioned at about 120m above sea level and 8kms inland this North/ South facing vineyard is in the heart of McLaren Vale. We pride ourselves in sustainable viticulture practices and having true respect for the value of our vineyards and the fruit they create. Monitoring and measuring the vines is a crucial part of maintaining fruit quality of this level with a key focus being on the soil health and how this impacts the vine, the fruit and in turn the wine and the experience. The fruit for this wine is picked a little earlier to ensure a slightly lower alcohol level. Winery In the winery The Descendant of Squid Ink Shiraz fruit is treated with utmost respect, ensuring quality from start to finish. With a 2 day cold soak prior to a slow cool fermentation for gentle extraction colour, flavour and tannin extraction are closely monitored with different fermentation cap management applied accordingly. Following fermentation, the wine is then matured in a special selection of the finest 4 year old seasoned American oak Hogshead (300L) oak barrels for 9 months. Maturation 9 Months in well-seasoned 4 year old American Oak, Hogshead (300L) oak barrels. Colour Deep red with vibrant purple hues. Nose Deep dark fruits with some black olive, earthy complexity entice the senses followed by complementing dusty oak characters.
