Kalleske Old Vine Grenache, Barossa Valley The Kalleske family makes their Old Vine Grenache in the Barossa Valley, where they have been farming and growing grapes since the 1800s. Yet this old Barossa family have been cited by Max Allen in 2010 as a model for the future of the Barossa. Estate grown, vinified and matured on the Kalleske Greenock estate, the Old Vine Grenache is made from a single vineyard planted in 1935 as bush vines on the Kalleske farm. The shallow sand and light clay ensure that these dry-grown grapes are intensely flavoured fruit.

Producing only genuinely Estate wines, Greenock Creek is the lifelong labour of Michael & Annabelle Waugh. These wines are typically full of intense Barossan power, often paired with the heat to boot. The fruit for crafting Reach for the Sky Shiraz was sourced from the 35 year old grapevines planted in the estates vineyards. The grapes were left on skins, gently pumped, and then fermented in stainless steel, prior to maturation in French oak barriques. This beautiful Shiraz from Kaesler Wines features a bright purple red colour with deep red hues. The fragrant nose exudes scintillating aromas of blackberries, enhanced by an earthy edge. A sip of the wine reveals fresh and intense flavours of dark fruits and blackberries, accompanied by subtle notes of chocolate, boysenberry and charcoal. These vibrant characters are supported by fine tannins, which end the drink in a soft and juicy finale. Suggested food pairings for this wonderful Shiraz include brisket, grilled London broil and smoked Cheddar.

2014 Z Wine Section 3146 Barossa Valley Shiraz. Shiraz performed well with high baumes and low yields keeping us on or toes. Ripe fruit flavour and good weighted wines helped us shape a classic and popular Barossa style with loads of raspberry, licorice, black pepper and chocolate for complexity.

Schild Estate Old & Survivor Vine Barossa Valley Grenache 2019 The Old & Survivor Vine 2019 Barossa Valley Grenache is firmly in the red fruit register but at the darker end of the spectrum. Dark cherries and red currants are chaperoned by savoury spice. Slight creamy texture and soft tannins are offset by a bright edge. This isnt an over the top Barossa Grenache, its generous, layered and interesting without being indulgent. The fruit is sourced from two vineyards. The Kleemann Vineyard was established in 1985 at 320m asl on the Eastern Hills overlooking Rowland Flat and are now classified as Old Vines (35 years+). The second vineyard in the blend is the Three Springs. Established at 300m asl, the plot is adjacent to the original Schild family estate in Rowland Flat. The vines are 70+ years old Classified and Survivor Vines. At this altitude, the vines are much lower-yielding and, combined with the decades of growth, produce fruit of great concentration, complexity and character. Schild Estate then realises the potential of the fruit and presents it in this sumptuous 2019 cuvée.

Barbera is a well-known Italian grape variety. Kaesler’s Barbera takes inspiration from its home town appellation, Tanunda, in the Barossa Valley, and its un-canny similarities with Barbera d’Alba – the famous appellation for Barbera in the Piedmont. The variety is true to Australian Barbera character. Colour: Garnet, bright with a vivacious edge. Nose: Black cherries and pips and lots of florals. Palate: Medium bodied palate fills with fleshy ripe fruit, soft tannins and neat acid finish.

At the foot of the iconic Kaiserstuhl mountain, the early Silesian settlers of the Barossa constructed a stone altar a sanctuary for prayer in their new homeland. The Krondorf Stone Altar Shiraz is a tribute to the settlers resourcefulness and resilience, which helped these old resilient vines. This 2020 vintage sources its grapes from a very small plot of elegantly aged and interesting vines in the Barossa sub-region of Ebernezer. Crafted by Head Winemaker Nick Badrice, the Krondorf Stone Altar Grenache is all about precision and focus; with concentrated aromas of black cherries with intense earthy and aniseed character leading to a palate of bramble and spice with freshly cut fig, lovely freshness and structure from subtle notes from new and seasoned premium oak barrels. Elegantly poised, with wonderful freshness. Held back for flavour development before release.
