Cuvée du Cèdre Clos de Vougeot A blend of fruit from propitiously situated plots, sourced from six different growers, across the largest of all of Burgundys Grand Crus. Intentionally, some are prime real estate, directly behind the château; others, on the lower ebbs of the vineyard. Ponsot sees this as a balancing act. A wealth of black cherry, red currant and plum liqueur, framed by the Clos earthenware tannins. A wine that is consistently rated frumps by the worlds eminent Burgundy commentators, this will only grow in stature with extended patience.

For some, the exquisite Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue' Musigny Grand Cru 2009 represents the pinnacle of red wine achievment in Burgundy. A special feature of de Vogüé is that their Musigny is called Musigny Vieilles Vignes old vines. For this wine, only vines 25 years or older are used. The average age is usually over 40 years.

CHARMES CHAMBERTIN Grand Cru The Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru lies between the village of Morey-Saint-Denis to the south and Gevrey-Chambertin to the north. The plot lies east of the Grand Cru wine route, at the bottom of the hillside, where the slope is slight (3 percent). The plot ranges in altitude from 261 to 280 meters. The lieu-dit faces east-southeast. The soil changes from east to west. In the eastern part, the soil is 20 to 50 cm thick, and stony, with angular-to-blunt, fine-grained white Comblanchien limestone fragments. In the western part of the plot, the reddish-brown soil is of a similar thickness, with blunt crinoidal limestone fragments (calcaire à Entroques). Two types of substratum underlie the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru. The compact Comblanchien limestone in the eastern part of the plot is in contact with crinoidal limestone (calcaire à Entroques) in the western part, indicating the presence of a fault underlying this Grand Cru.

Château Latour is the epitome of power and bold concentration that is Pauillac. With a high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, the brilliant close knit tannin complimenting the vibrant cassis driven fruit is something to behold. It is often said that buyers of Latour worry about the wines they purchase will outlive them quite considerably such is the pedigree of such a wine. This is a definite concern for the 2009 vintage which is being reported as being the very best in living memory. The wine itself is a masterclass in concentration and power only with a robust and joyful front and mid-palate. Notes of blackberry and dark plum dance along with secondary characters of subtle oak and pencil shavings. A rambunctuous back palate that is almost thick and viscous that is truly forboding. Chateau Lafite Rothschild is widely considered one of the great Bordeaux estates, and certainly the upper echelon of the famed Medoc appellation. Owned by Baron Eric de Rothschild, the vineyards are located in the north of Pauillac near the boundary of St Estephe - while the site has allegedly been planted since the 14th century, the wines have been a staple only since the 17th century, and with increasing interest in the provenance more recently, following the Second World War. At 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot in 2010, this is a benchmark release that will be celebrated for generation. Increasing attention in cellar and vineyard has only enhanced the wines and their demand, due to continuing fine-tuning of quality.
