The Murder McLaren Vale Shiraz

With vineyards approx. 5km from the ocean (as the crow flies) the benefits of the cooling breezes are evident on the wine. It is inky yet bright, with silky dark fruits and excellent length. Bold, smooth and wonderfully balanced

The Good Grape McLaren Vale Shiraz

Collaborations Shiraz by d'Arenberg

Good winter rains set the vines up well for the ensuing dry, warm growing season. The ripening period was characterised again by warm, dry condition without excessive heat which gifted us rich, opulent reds with well-balanced structure. The moderate weather allowed us to harvest fruit at optimal ripeness. The Shiraz in particular demonstrates rafts of blackberry, fennel and earthy characters, typical hallmarks of a classic d’Arenberg red. Produced in close partnership with some of Australia's finest vineyards, Collaborations is our new capsule range of five wines. After over a year of tasting and scoring, we arrived at our core collection of wines: a Brown Brothers prosecco, a Mr Riggs shiraz, a Yering Station chardonnay, a Pizzini pinot grigio and a Xanadu cabernet sauvignon. Chapel Hill Small Batch McLaren Vale Shiraz Mourvdre

Our small batch collection reflects forward thinking winemaking inspired by new frontiers and revisiting sentimental favourites. At Chapel Hill, we are proud of the pioneering spirit of McLaren vale and these wines capture the passion of all who are involved. This Shiraz Mourvèdre is robust, layered and flavoursome.

Serafino Sorrento Shiraz

Steve Maglieri's Serafino Sorrento Shiraz, is one the most flavourful McLaren Shiraz's we've seen for quite some time. Spicy and rich on the front palate that then leads to a supreme density consisting of ripe plums and blackcurrants. If you're a McLaren Vale Shiraz lover, this Sorrento Shiraz has your name written all over it.

Ulithorne Prospera Shiraz

This wine is the baby sister to Ulithornes Frux Frugis Shiraz. It is a wine that celebrates the elegance & intensity of flavours that old bush vine Shiraz can bring to the table. With spice & ripe cherries on the nose, driving length of blood plums and an elegantly weighted palate, the flavours are balanced with soft tannins. An example of old bush vines, thoughtful viticulture & a dedication to wine-making detail.

Shingleback Red Knot Shiraz

Shingleback's Red Knot Shiraz is a superb example of how a McLaren Vale Shiraz should be. Rich, luscious aromas followed by a medium-bodied palate with well balanced acidity, tannins and texture. The 2010 gives flavours of ripe strawberries, blackberries and rose petals with hints of cashew and creme brulee. Enjoy this excellent value Shiraz now or let it develop for a few years in the cellar.

Geoff Merrill Mount Hurtle Shiraz

Mr Riggs Idle Lane Shiraz

Ben Riggs is McLaren Vale royalty. This is the wine of a maker in his prime. Known by all, and perhaps the envy of a few. This wine is superfine and mega satisfying. Made in small batches, this has the classic fruitcake richness you’d expect, with surprising elegance, tasteful French oak and a savoury spice finish. It’s long and supple, rich enough for some lip-smacking satisfaction, but not overweight or tiresome. A bright streak of acidity keeps things fresh and exciting. No wonder so many mofos come back for more (and more, and more).

Pirramimma Geoff Johnston Milestone Shiraz

Geoff Johnston, an absolute icon of McLaren Vale. To know his name is to know the region, thanks to the devotion of talented and hard working wine growers, a collective who single-handedly put this unassuming beachside region on a global stage. In honour of his 50th vintage, this wine speaks to Geoff’s character: determined, endearing, and engaging. Geoff planted shiraz with his old man ‘Digby’ back in 1971, and today, this block of vines shows so much character reminiscent of time and place. Shiraz like this is knee-weakeningly good. Upfront dark fruits; plums and blackberries, carried along with mocha tones before reaching peaks of vanilla and spice (and all things nice). Just like the person it celebrates, this wine is all about a father and his son’s legacy. A celebration of family, in the wine game for the long haul.
