Since 1952, the Schild family have lived and worked in the Southern Barossa, growing grapes and creating wines with authenticity and passion, from real Barossa earth, in a place they call home. The wine has historical significance, it is a variety the Barossa is best known for and it comes from a vineyard cared for by generations of Barossa families. The estate today known as Crabtree Watervale Wines was originally founded in 1849 and was originally named “Pomona”, a well respected orchard during the late 1800’s growing apples, plums, pears and currants. Over the last century or so, the fruit trees were replaced with vines and contemporary lovers of quality Clare Valley wine can taste the rewards. From vines up to 40 years old in Watervale, this is classic Clare: lemon zest, limes and a hint of jasmine on the nose, with juicy concentrated citrus flavours. The Crabtree Riesling is finely textured and certainly overdelivers on value.

Tom Barry is a third-generation master winemaker, and this Gold winning Clare Valley riesling is only further proof of his expertise. Serve as a refreshing aperitif before seafood. Aromas of white nectarine flesh, fresh lime and fragrant orange blossom combine with crushed wet limestone. The palate is well weighted on entry, with full drive and purpose throughout. This fine elegant Riesling has aromas of lime juice and honey blossom while the palate offers excellent fruit weight with minerally flavours that linger on the finish. Drinking beautifully and sure to age well.

True to type aromas of brown-skinned pear and red-skinned apple with a savoury element providing some complexity. Penfolds Maxs Chardonnay is a tribute to former Chief Winemaker Max Schubert, a legend in Penfolds history. Pale straw in colour with green hues, this wine has a very nice textural and creamy palate with a soft line of acid fading ever so slowly to a distant palate horizon.

Golden in colour with aromas of tropical fruits and citrus. Delicate but mouthfilling, Mount Horrocks Cordon Cut reveals a balanced sweet palate with a hint of lime zest on the finish. A multi-award winning dessert wine over many years, this example of the style is a benchmark in Australia.

Shaw & Smith is a benchmark Sauvignon Blanc. This release shows ripe tropical characters with restrained grassy notes and crisp dry acidity. Delightfully fresh lively and flavoursome. Always a classic and always quick to disappear off the shelves.
