Don Julio Ultima Reserva Extra Añejo Tequila
Don Julio Tequila is a revered and iconic brand that represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship and dedication to the art of tequila production. Founded by Don Julio González in 1942, this Mexican tequila has become synonymous with exceptional quality and an unwavering commitment to tradition. Don Julio Tequila is crafted with utmost care and attention to detail, starting with the selection of the finest blue agave plants from the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. These agaves, grown for an average of seven to ten years are handpicked at their peak ripeness ensuring the fullest expression of flavour. The heart of Don Julio Tequila lies in its production process, which combines time-honoured techniques with modern innovation. The agave piñas are slow-cooked in traditional masonry ovens, allowing the sugars to develop and create a rich and complex flavour profile. After the cooking process, the agave is crushed and the juice is extracted, fermented and carefully distilled to perfection. The result is a range of tequilas that exemplify the essence of their respective expressions. From the vibrant and crisp Blanco, with its notes of citrus and agave, to the aged and refined Añejo and Reposado, which showcase the influence of oak barrels with hints of vanilla and caramel, each expression offers a unique and memorable tasting experience. Don Julio Tequila is not just a brand; it is a symbol of Mexican heritage and craftsmanship. It is a tequila that has been celebrated and enjoyed by tequila connoisseurs and enthusiasts around the world. The legend begins in 1942, when a young Don Julio González sees a once in a lifetime opportunity in tequila production. He didn't own much, but what he did possess was a dream and the singular devotion needed to bring it to life. After sharing his vision with a local businessman, he was granted a loan to start his first tequila distillery, La Primavera. Sitting 6500 feet above sea level in the highlands of Jalisco is where it all began. It's in this extreme climate, surrounded by rich volcanic soil, where the legendary distillery of La Primavera was founded and Don Julio Tequila was born. Since 1947, over three generations of the Jimador families have worked with Don Julio. Their devotion to Don Julio's process and methods is unmatched and their mastery in planting, farming and harvesting agave have been passed on for generations and can be traced back to Don Julio himself. In 2006, Don Julio, with his family, planted their final agave field. In honour of his devotion and craftsmanship, this agave harvest was carefully distilled, barrelled, and set aside for a special use. Now released in commemoration of the tenure of Don Julio Gonzalez’s at the distillery over the last 80 years. To preserve this tequila and the exquisite agave piñas behind it they implemented a Solera aging system. The Solera aging method combines and matures tequilas of different characteristics finished in unique casks, allowing the final agave harvest to remain at the heart of this rare Extra Añejo Tequila. Don Julio Ultima Reserva Extra Anejo has been rested in oak, previously used to age bourbon and finished in Madeira wine-seasoned casks. Don Julio Ultima Reserva Extra Añejo Tequila is a truly exceptional and limited edition expression that showcases the artistry of tequila-making. Given the chance to go to Scotland, Masataka became the first Japanese ever to master how to make whisky. He enrolled at the University of Glasgow, took chemistry courses and then apprenticed at three Scotch distilleries. In 1920 Masataka returned to Japan with his Scottish wife Jessie Roberta (Rita). The two had married earlier that year and Rita decided to immigrate to Japan to support her husband’s dream. However after returning to Japan, Masataka and Rita were heartbroken to find out that Settsu Shuzo, the company which invested in Masataka to learn in Scotland, had to abandon its plan to produce genuine whisky in Japan due to recessions after World War I. In the meantime another company, Kotobukiya Limited (Suntory), was in search for someone who could conduct whisky production. Being the only Japanese who knew how to produce whisky at that time, Masataka was hired by Kotobukiya in 1923 to direct building the Yamazaki Distillery. There he led the project and devoted himself to producing Japan’s first genuine whisky. These limited edition 2 bottle set of the Yoichi and Miyagiko has been finished in Nikka’s apple brandy casks and bottled in 2020 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Masataka and Rita’s marriage in 1920. Clase Azul Durango Mezcal
Clase Azul is a Mexican tequila brand that has been sharing the magic of Mexican culture with the world for the past 25 years. The brand was born from a dream to showcase the beauty of Mexican traditions and land. Its iconic decanter, a unique creation made by Mexican artisans, was the starting point of this dream. The name Clase Azul, meaning blue class, was inspired by the blue agave used to make their spirits and the paint on their first Reposado decanter. Despite facing challenges such as natural disasters and financial crises, Clase Azul has stayed true to its ideals and overcome adversity. In 2007, the brand founded Tradición Mazahua, a ceramic workshop where Clase Azul artisans dedicate themselves to creating the brand's decanters as a tribute to Mexican culture. Today, Clase Azul is proud to share the magic of Mexico with more than 55 countries. The brand has transformed into Clase Azul México, but it still preserves the spirit that drives it to showcase the beauty of Mexican culture to the world. Clase Azul México aims to transcend and represent Mexican culture around the world with its exquisite creations and spaces that reveal the heart of Mexico. The agaves used for Clase Azul tequilas grow in Los Altos de Jalisco, a region of red-coloured earth that creates unique properties in the plant. To create their exquisite tequilas, Clase Azul follows a long transformation process that involves slow-cooking the agave piñas in masonry ovens, milling them to extract the sugars, fermenting them with patented yeast, and double-distilling them in copper stills. Clase Azul Tequila Plata is the unaged tequila that captures the notes of the agave, but the journey isn't over yet. The tequila is matured in casks made from oak or other types of wood, allowing it to develop a more complex profile. Clase Azul also honours the tradition of mezcal, which can be made from a wide range of agave species and reflects the soil and conditions that have nourished the agave. The artisanship found in Clase Azul's decanters is a reflection of Mexico's cultural diversity. Each decanter is a creative process that demands artistic drive, technical ability and knowledge passed down for generations. The tequila decanters tell stories through their decoration, while the mezcal decanters display caps decorated with precious artisanal techniques. Clase Azul Durango Mezcal is meticulously created from the Cenizo Agave, a rare agave varietal that thrives in the untamed lands of Durango, located in the northern region of Mexico. The combination of the agave's natural habitat, enriched by mineral-rich soil and nourished by pristine water from natural springs, imparts a distinct and smoky character to this exceptional mezcal. The distillation process of Clase Azul Durango Mezcal remains faithful to time-honoured artisanal methods, ensuring that every bottle encapsulates the essence of ancient mezcal traditions. This dedication to tradition creates a unique profile that is unrivalled in its complexity and depth of flavour. With its bright crystalline appearance adorned with silver sparkles, Clase Azul Durango Mezcal is a sight to behold. Its medium-bodied texture caresses the palate, offering a sensory experience that is both luxurious and inviting. As you delve into the aroma of this mezcal, a symphony of scents unfolds. Citrus and herbal notes dance alongside hints of green olive, cooked agave and cloves, creating an olfactory journey that is as captivating as it is enticing. When it comes to taste, Clase Azul Durango Mezcal truly shines. Each sip reveals a harmonious blend of flavors, including the subtle nuttiness of peanuts, the rich sweetness of brown sugar and honey, and the earthy essence of wood and chocolate. Ripe fruit notes add a luscious touch, completing the sensory adventure that this mezcal offers. The decanter itself is a work of art, inspired by the raw beauty of black clay. Its dark and textured exterior serves as a testament to the craftsmanship that goes into every detail. Hand-carved by artisans from a small community of the Mazahua people, the design on this special piece evokes a sense of timelessness and cultural heritage. Adding a vibrant touch to the decanter is the unique and colourful cap, crafted by artisans from the Wixárika culture. This cap not only adds a burst of colour but also symbolizes the unity of diverse Mexican traditions coming together to create something truly extraordinary.
