Blackberry, leather, cedar, clove and anise on the nose. Full-bodied, dense and rich with a compote of dark fruit, earthy tannins, touches of bay leaf and wood smoke, and a powerful dry finish.

Coonawarra might be known for age-worthy reds like cabernet sauvignon, but it is criminally overlooked when it comes to its whites. Why do we say that? Because with all that even growing temperature and well-documented terroir, whites such as sauvignon blanc show not only typicity, but vibrant acidity, and a restrained, sophisticated edge. Leaning on the edge of tropical with green pineapple, green apple, feijoa and lime pith- this is as fresh and unique as they come.

We are a small team at Patrick of Coonawarra, making award winning wine from our estate grown vineyards within the Limestone Coast of South Australia. We produce product of passion, perseverance, people & place. This wine has been handcrafted to combine bold blackberry fruits with the spice and earthiness for which Coonawarra is renowned. It is medium bodied in structure, yet has concentration and elegance with a smooth finish. WINEMAKER’S NOTE: This Cabernet is grown in our northern Coonawarra vineyard. It spent time in seasoned French oak for 20 months, before being bottled and cellared before release. VINTAGE NOTE: The season had a fantastic start, with generous Winter rainfall regenerating the aquifer and ensuring adequate subsoil moisture coming into Spring. We saw great canopy growth but a cool November delayed flowering and brought the bunch weights down to just below average. The majority of the state suffered from dry conditions, however our cool climate and on average rainfall kept the vines healthy and made for a long growing season, perfect for Cabernet.

The “red-stripe” blend of 4 red varieties creates a versatile wine suited to many occasions. Soft fruit and judicious oak, well balanced and approachable wine, providing a true reflection of its regionality.

This quintessential Coonawarra Cabernet has all the hallmarks of this classic style. A lifted nose of dried herb, bay leaf and bramble leads into a rich palate of cassis, cocoa and blackberry. The fruit weight is well supported by fine, silky tannins and natural, bright acidity. A wine to be enjoyed now, and will improve with short term cellaring.
