Penfolds Bin 2 Shiraz Mataro (also known as Mourvèdre) has a history going back to 1960 when Penfolds made a traditional "Burgundy" style. Penfolds have always loved Mataro (Mourvèdre) for its fantastic ability to blend marvelously with traditional South Australian stalwarts like Shiraz. Adding luscious complexity and palate grip, the Bin 2 is aged in older oak to emphasise the spicy savouriness of Mataro (Mourvèdre) that complements the plush richness of Shiraz.

Let's not mince words here - this is a monstrous wine. Super concentrated, super rich and extremely powerful. Soft, plush tannins and the use of 100% American oak (46% new) is just the cherry on top of this beautiful black forest cake. This could be comfortably cellared for 15-20 years - serious stuff. The 2022 Blue Eyed Boy is unmistakably McLaren Vale Shiraz. Plush, rich, and unapologetically bold. Deep purple in the glass, it opens with vibrant aromas of blueberry, ripe plum, and mocha cream - see what we mean about black forest cake. The palate is all about power and polish - layer after layer of fresh, juicy berries, a hint of aniseed spice, and a smooth, lengthy, finish laced with dark chocolate and ripe tannins. It’s lush, expressive, and beautifully structured, with velvety tannins carrying the flavour long after the last sip. A showstopper now, with the depth, acid and tannin to age gracefully for years to come.

The Hill Block straddles the ridge running through the Chapel Hill estate. The wine was then aged for 19 months in 100% tight grained French oak. The proportion of new oak was kept low to encourage the continued expression of the characters that are unique to the vineyard site.

The Shingleback D Block Reserve Shiraz is named for the Davey Block of the Davey Estate vineyard and is the personal expression of the McLaren Vale from the eyes of winemaker John Davey. True reserve wines, the D Block is only made in exceptional vintages just like this 2009. In the glass the wine has a colour that is impenetrable purple red. On the nose there are aromas of mulberry and blackberry that mingle with dusty cashew, milky chocolate (typical of McLaren Vale), spice and forest floor. There are tight, fine tannins to counter the bold, fresh fruit which results in an alluring and unmistakable wine that expresses the essence of the vine, the time and the place.
