The Collection is the purest expression of our savoir-faire perpetuated since 1878. The first release is a rare eau-de-vie, a very old Grande Champagne 78. This 49,4% “brut de fût” is a single cask 78 with an exquisite aromatic palette, a sensory voyage, an invitation to contemplation. Collection 78 features only 288 numbered decanters in limited edition, with its own handcrafted ceramic headdress. TASTING NOTES A first gourmet nose of candied fruits, apricots, figs. Once opened in the glass, subtle notes of mango compote and ripe apples appear, followed by pastry aromas, custard, and orange blossom. The olfactory finish takes you to fresh wood and cigar box notes. The palate reveals light tannin and great length, with a dominance of very ripe fruit that gives its beautiful naturally sweet roundness. A very slightly toasted hint on the finish. In a word, an outstanding and venerable Grande Champagne with a light rancio that has preserved all its fruit and freshness for great sweetness and a silky finish. Acacia amber color. ABV: 49,4%

The 50 Year Old Rare Tawny is a symbol of Penfolds heritage, typifying collaboration and shared creative expression. For Series 1, Penfolds collaborated with glass artist Nick Mount to create 330 units, individually blown and hand crafted to suit the rarity of the wine. The wine encased captures the legacy of past and the aspirations of present winemakers, spanning almost a century of fortified history in one blend. Amongst the many individual components captured in this wine is the 1915 vintage, reported to be the foundation of the first Grandfather cask. Additionally, the 1940, 1945 vintages, the first two commercial releases of the Grandfather (in 1965 and 1969 respectively) and the first Great Grandfather release (1994). Incorporating the 1915 vintage component from Penfolds precious glass stock reserves means the Penfold 50 Year Old Rare Tawny carries a generic connectionto the earliest recorded vintage of Penfolds Grandfather Tawny.
