Chris Hatcher of 'Hatch Wines' has been a winemaker for almost 50 years including more than 35 years at Wolf Blass, 27 as Chief Winemaker. After many years of contemplating releasing his own wines, Hatch retired from TWE in June 2023 and then in October/November released my own label HATCH, his monicker for most of his life. Hatch Barossa St Johns Shiraz is a powerful, full bodied and opulent wine with vibrance and purity. Intense and concentrated with great aromatics of plum and dark cherry, the palate has dark red fruits, is round, soft with seductive oak and silky tannins.

This iconic label by Yalumba has a proud history from it's first release in 1962. Quite possibly the quintessential Australian Shiraz Cabernet blend, 'The Sig' shows vibrant Barossa aromas of dark fruit and spice and a concentrated palate that is long and deeply flavoured. With the ability to age wonderfully well, The Signature is a deserving part of any wine aficionado's collection.

Les Trois Clefs (The Three Keys) is the emblem of the historic city of Avignon, capital of the Cotes du Rhone wine region. Chateauneuf du Pape is a superior Grenache Syrah that delivers all the juicy red fruits, power and complexity the region is famuos for. Lovely dark forest fruits with a hint of spice, the finish is long and smooth. Enjoy with Cassoulet or Grillades de Boeuf!

Bright, deep garnet. Spice laced, smoky, savory notes dominate when the bottle is first opened. With air aromas transit through black tea, charred meat, green pepper corn, wood smoke and suede, to roasted nuts, red and black cherry and high transient notes of citrus oils and jasmine. Restrained and relatively closed on the palate initially. Mid-weight, with a keen balance of both flesh and bones fruit and structure - tangy dried herb edged fruit opens up to polished, fresh black fruits. Focused and pure, has great line.

This is a stylish shiraz by Mount Horrocks, classic in character with mouth-filling red and black fruits, rich and juicy. The palate is beautifully elegant, balanced with long fine tannins, spicy fruit and oak.

This Shiraz Viognier has aromas of spice, red fruit and cedar. It is very aromatic with the same spiced fruit flavour persisting throughout the palate.

Fresh blackberry and boysenberry, spice, liquorice, tar and dried herbs. Medium bodied, juicy bramble fruits, crisp boysenberry acidity, salted beef, firm but fine grained drying tannin, and a long fresh meaty herb infused finish.

Colour is deep red. The nose shows aniseed, tar, FruChocs and spicy oak. The fine palate entry has mulberry, cranberry, aniseed and liquorice flowing delicately with Rhone-like spicy, chewy, savoury tannins.

Farms is iconic Barossa at its best, a mark if respect to those that have carved out our regions reputation, and a nod to those yet to come. An intense nose of blackberry, black olive, liquorice and cigar box characters leads to a powerful palate of rich blackberry, olive tapenade and vanillin spice with dense, powerful and grippy tannins. Fermented for 7 – 10 days in traditional open top fermenters the wine undergoes malo-lactic fermentation in French and American hogsheads followed by twenty months oak maturation. The wine is intense ruby red in colour and displays classic forest berry fruit aromas. The ripe berry fruits overlaying spicey oak characters which support and add structure to the wine. The aromatic blackberry and blueberry fruits carry to the palate which is opulent and a classic representation of the region. This wine will continue to mature until at least 2036 if stored correctly. Grapes were sourced from Becker Vineyard in the Koonunga sub-region of the Barossa Valley. Four generations of the Becker Family owned the small vineyard until it was recently purchased by the Hoffmann family. The vineyard is sited on deeper loam soils over red clays that follow a small creek that runs through the property.
