Brokenwood Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay

The Beechworth terroir has a distinctive fruit character of pear/peach fruit. The oak has minimal impact by using older French oak and mainly puncheons. The warm year has meant less citrus lift but has bran meal notes from the wild ferment and extended lees contact. The palate is quite rich with zesty acid line through to the finish. Drinking well now but will improve with further bottle age. Maybe leave the 2012 and 2013 for a couple more years and enjoy this in its place. Enjoy with Seafood to light meats.

Incisive, pure and chalky on the palate, this concentrated yet light on its feet wine is reminiscent of good Corton-Charlemagne. That it will age gracefully is a given.

Mount Mary Triolet White Blend

Initially there are citrus notes, lemon and grapefruit, but then riper characters, more suggestive of melon, pear and driedapricot quickly become the dominant players. The palate is rich, concentrated and textured. There are flavours of lychee, ripe pear, apricot and blackcurrant leaf. The palate is defined bypersistent acid, chalky phenolics and a long, persistent finish.

This Chardonnay comes from the Funder and Diamond Vineyard in Wandin East, a north-facing site at 240 metres elevation. Planted in 1990 with the renowned P58 clone, the vineyard’s red volcanic soils and cool climate produce wines of precision, purity and depth. A vibrant Chardonnay with lifted aromas of kaffir lime leaf, citrus pith, white nectarine and alpine mint, layered with notes of flint, ginger and toasted almonds. Subtle oak brings warmth through hints of ginger snap and spice. The palate is bright, textured and tightly coiled, with flavours of candied lime, lemon drop, grapefruit pith and juicy nectarine. A fine bead of acidity and mineral crunch carry the wine to a long, layered finish. Elegant yet powerful, this is a classic expression of 864 Chardonnay - refined, complex and built to age.
