A dark purple colour already shows the depth of this vintage. Refined and floral aromas on the nose with red fruits combined with a delicate and precise oak. 2014 was one of the most demanding years in memory of, and has allowed us to produce high quality wines that are offering great delight. The late ripening of the grapes allowed the fruit to fully express its liveliness and freshness. What is particularly striking is the high quality of the tannins on the palate: silky, refined, without rough edges. This year represents the heart of the estate, Ornellaia's 'Essence': its natural style, the exceptional quality of its terroir, and the competence of those who work in the vineyards and the cellar. The Ornellaia Estate was founded by Marchese Lodovico Antinori in 1981, very close to the Castello di Bolgheri in Tuscany. Their philosophy revolves around an obsession for excellence. Unmistakably, Grange, this 2012 vintage is complex, flamboyant and lifted. An aromatic multi-cultural characteristics. The earthiness is well integrated with the aromas of dark fruits, grounded coffee, red liquorice and black olives, which leads to a firmly structured finish.

The 50 Year Old Rare Tawny is a symbol of Penfolds heritage, typifying collaboration and shared creative expression. For Series 1, Penfolds collaborated with glass artist Nick Mount to create 330 units, individually blown and hand crafted to suit the rarity of the wine. The wine encased captures the legacy of past and the aspirations of present winemakers, spanning almost a century of fortified history in one blend. Amongst the many individual components captured in this wine is the 1915 vintage, reported to be the foundation of the first Grandfather cask. Additionally, the 1940, 1945 vintages, the first two commercial releases of the Grandfather (in 1965 and 1969 respectively) and the first Great Grandfather release (1994). Incorporating the 1915 vintage component from Penfolds precious glass stock reserves means the Penfold 50 Year Old Rare Tawny carries a generic connectionto the earliest recorded vintage of Penfolds Grandfather Tawny.
