Product Description: Volnay’s crown jewel—classical, poised, and profoundly long-lived. The 2020 Clos des Ducs 1er Cru from Domaine Marquis d’Angerville is the domaine’s grand vin in every sense. Sourced from a 2.15-hectare monopole at the top of Volnay's limestone-rich slope, this wine is often spoken of as a Grand Cru in all but name. In 2020—a vintage Guillaume d’Angerville considers his best since taking the reins in 2003—the Clos des Ducs delivers extraordinary structure and precision, even as it carries the warmth of the year with effortless finesse. Perfumed and supremely detailed, this wine opens with wild strawberry, incense, rose petal and forest floor. The palate is compact, mineral-charged and impeccably balanced, with fine tannins that promise decades of graceful evolution. The 1.5L magnum format only adds to its cellaring potential. Drink 2030–2060. Clos des Ducs is at home with the finest dishes: truffle-scented pigeon, venison loin, or simply enjoyed in quiet reverence. Amongst the best terroirs of Champagne, this Clos (walled vineyard) is able to sublimate the greatest vintages. Carefully selected from the coveted 2018 South Australian vintage, the wines represent two unique interpretations of the iconic Australian blend of cabernet sauvignon and shiraz. 802.B varietal composition is close to evenly split with cabernet sauvignon contributing 55% and shiraz 45% of the blend respectively. The components were married immediately post vintage, completing 19 months maturation as a blend in French oak hogsheads.This wine will reward careful cellaring for several decades.
