This great Clare Valley Riesling opens with lavender, pear and talc aromas. Juicy fruit continues on the palate adding some bruised apple, refreshing acidity, viscosity and mid palate weight. Ideal as an aperitif, with spicy cuisine or with most seafood dishes.

This wine is pale yellow in colour with a light green hue. This is an off-dry style wine, giving off initial aromas of lime, tangy lemon verbena, nectarine and apple lemon, coupled with traces of musk and roses. It is an intricate mix of fruit passion, acidity, sweetness and alcohol where each attribute is in harmony with the other, resulting in a wine with personality and charm. "This has hallmark slickness and vitality in texture, with greasy apple, nashi pear and cashew savouriness, a lift of pleasing white vinegary tang and a dash of sweet, exotic spice. That's a good list of ingredients for gris, here done medium weight with good length in tow. While not overly complex, it delivers a sense of layers and interest to the wine. Gew rz means spice in German, and there are some spicy elements to this exotic and luscious Gew rztraminer from one of the cooler sites of the Clare Valley.Simmering pale gold colour. Lychee, pear, melon and musk aromas. Juicy, plush and sweet fruit entry with a creamy mouthfeel, luscious yellow stonefruit depth, lime-like acidity, and a generous fruit-sweet finish. A lovely off-dry style.

Fresh, bright and youthful - the nose is awash with attractive, fruit forward aromatics that cross the spectrum from rich pear to white peach. Fresh yet svelte, the palate sees that lifted green pear evolve onto a nashi pear, with golden delicious apple vibes. Bright, primary fruit sits front and centre, backed by lovely textural elements, notes of almond meal and herbaceous hints of tarragon. Throughout the palate there is a minerality that can only be described as groovy. The epic finish lingers like a classic 70’s guitar solo, a moreish encore in every sip.

A Riesling that is both delicate and textural. The 219 is expressive and more overt than other years, with wonderful flavours. The grapes were all hand picked. Half were whole bunch pressed and half were crushed and pressed, each fermented separately. The wine was blended and then spent four months on lees prior to bottling. Riesling Shaw + Smith own two vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, at Balhannah and Lenswood, totalling 55 hectares. The vineyards are planted to varieties that perform particularly well in the region, namely Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz. Shaw + Smith was established in 1989 by cousins Michael Hill Smith MW and Martin Shaw. They make wines exclusively from the Adelaide Hills, from varieties that suit the cooler climate: Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz. Shaw + Smith own two vineyards, in Lenswood and Balhannah. Balhannah is also home to the winery where the Tasting Room is open daily. Shaw + Smiths first vintage was in 1990, and the early vintages were made at Wirra Wirra and Petaluma. In 1999 they purchased a property at Balhannah, where they planted vines, and built the winery and tasting room in time for the 2000 vintage. In 2012 they purchased an established 20 hectare vineyard in Lenswood. As the business has grown Michael and Martin have built a formidable team to continue the evolution of Shaw + Smith, including Master of Wine David LeMire, Senior Winemaker Adam Wadewitz, Business Manager Grant Lovelock and Group Viticulturist Murray Leake.
