Located in High Eden, a sub-region of the Barossa, approximately 550 metres above sea level, Mountadam was originally established in 1972 by the late David Wynn for his winemaking son Adam. Since 2005, it has returned to being a family owned and run winery, with David and Jenni Brown overseeing its success. With Phil Lehmann, the son of Peter Lehmann, as chief winemaker, they are going from strength-to-strength. Finishing in Scotch Whisky barrels has softened the tannin profile whilst adding a slight cherry, crème brûlée edge, due to the heavy toast to the barrels.

Dark fruit aromas of baked plum, blackberry and dark cherry compote. Cocoa dust, red licquorice and butterscotch also add a layer of complexity and sweetness to the nose. Mouth coating dark fruit fills the palate, with hints of leather and black pepper, tannins are soft, round and roll throughout the finish.

Brimming with blackcurrant and black cherry nuances and with layers of spice and tobacco on the nose, this is a powerful expression of the variety. Lashings of blackcurrant on the palate are complemented by lengthy, fine grained tannins and hints of cedar oak.
