The 2023 Bursaria Pinot Noir marks a quiet triumph for Henschke’s Lenswood vineyard, harvested just a few years after the devastating Cudlee Creek bushfire. Prue and Stephen Henschke’s regeneration of this Adelaide Hills site has led to a release that’s not only poised and varietally pure, but also deeply expressive of its restored landscape. Made entirely from pinot noir grown on steep, cool-climate slopes, it opens with lifted aromatics of red cherry, wild strawberry and bergamot, layered with tomato stem, thyme and forest floor. The palate is bright and silken, with fine tannins framing a vibrant core of raspberry and morello cherry. Matured in seasoned French oak barriques for 18 months, it carries both finesse and quiet persistence. Classic Margaret River nose of cassis, mulberries and capsicum. Fermentation and development in French and American oak, gives this wine a delicious mouthful of sweet fruit with notes of chocolate, cedar and plums.

This wine is deep crimson in colour with hints of youthful purple at the rim. On the nose, intense lifted aromas of mulberry and blackberry play with notes of pepper and oak spice. The palate is full bodied with complex forest fruits, spice and velvety tannins leading to a elegant and long finish. Served perfectly pan-roasted venison with creamy baked potato and celeriac. Medium-term careful cellaring of two to five years.

Very deep black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Elevated liquorice and blackberry aromas meld with vanillin cedar, earth and pepper. Rich and lush with a velvety feel, opulent liquorice and blackberry fruits overlay a back drop of black raspberry, scorched earth and blackpepper. Excellent concentration.
