A consistent and appealing acid structure and tannin backbone give the wine a real touch of class.

Three Ponds Chardonnay

In the glass: Vibrant pale yellow. On the nose: Ripe melon fruit and vanillin oak. On the palate: Shows clean stonefruit intensity with pineapple and tropical depth, lovely oak harmony, creamy flavour balance, juicy acidity and a grapefruit-like cut on the finish.

McKelvey Estate Shiraz

This Shiraz showcases why the Hunter does medium weight, savoury fruit reds better than most. Its a style you can enjoy now or even slightly chilled down in the warmer months. In the glass: Deep red black.On the nose: Bright red cherry with attractive hints of leather and five spice. On the palate: A terrific core of ripe red fruit with supple tannins, creamy depth and complexity and lovely oak and spice integration. A lively, well made, medium-bodied red savoury and soft throughout.

McKelvey Estate Cabernet Merlot

Deep yet bright mulberry purple in colour, this Hunter Cabernet – Merlot is a charmer. The aromas show loads of energy, with 80% Cabernet Sauvignon providing fresh florality, opening with briarberry and raspberry. These perfumes open out to deeper signatures of crème cassis and mint, plus subtle background support of vanilla and menthol from fine French oak. Cabernet is supreme on the palate too, delivering long, focussed flavours of raspberry and cranberry with hints of olive. 20% Merlot contributes roundness and depth throughout, with spiced plum silkiness that adds body and softness onto the finish. Tannins are powder-soft, showing the plush satin-like harmony of deluxe French barrel. This elegantly structured blend is definitely a keeper, and will take several years of cellaring to open out. Decanting is ideal if drinking earlier.

Briar Ridge Stockhausen Chardonnay

The Stockhausen Chardonnay was created by Briar Ridge in a style paying homage to the pioneers of the Hunter Valley around 40 years ago. It is rich and creamy with ripe peach and tropical notes.

Tyrrell's Hunter Valley Shiraz

From a fantastic vintage in the Hunter Valley, the Tyrrell's Wines Shiraz 2014 has been crafted in a distinctive Hunter Burgundy style by red winemaker Mark Richardson. In the glass: Medium density red.On the nose: Black cherry, plum, earth, leather and pepper.On the palate: Unashamedly medium weight and very savoury with a fine, velvety texture showing red and black fruit flavours with earth and spice elements, fine tannins and a persistent finish. A true Hunter Burgundy style.
