Ravensworth Neighbourly Rosso, Hilltops, Canberra District
The Rosso regional blend is made up of Sangiovese (60%), Barbera (25%), Sagrantino (8%), and Nebbiolo (7%) all sourced from Hilltops and Canberra. In the glass, it’s gorgeous and that’s before you get your nose in there. A bright pale ruby, the aroma dances with red fruit from strawberry to cherry to pomegranate, accented by the slightest hint of mint and rose petal. The palate is juicy and crunchy, more red fruit and the mint is replaced with a note of sage and even a touch of white pepper. There’s good concentration and length too, attesting to the quality, and it finishes with a tweak of fine tannin.
Le Filere Langhe Nebbiolo
Cantina Vallebelbo is located in Piemonte, in the small village of Santo Stefano Belbo, between the provinces of Cuneo and Asti. The name of the winery is inspired by the river Belbo that runs through the valley. Over the centuries, the river has shaped the surrounding hills, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. Very bright crimson red color, with intense aromas of redcurrants and complex notes of dusty baked earth. Very juicy berries on the palate with sweet, plump red fruits on the mid-palate in particular, supported by floral notes and prominent but refined Nebbiolo tannins. An excellent, well-priced introduction to this classic Italian variety.
Grove Estate Hilltops Nebbiolo
Pale ruby in the glass, with a pleasant red cherry and wild rose aroma. A savoury wine with fresh strawberry and lychee flavours. The palate shows a lovely high acidity giving it great potential to cellar for many years. An incredibly clean wine and a pure representation of Hilltops Nebbiolo from the pioneers of this variety in the region.
