Entirely sourced from Tyrrell's famous HVD vineyard. These dry grown blocks were planted in 1984 and 2003 and together they produce a modern style that has both richness and finesse.

Poole's Rock Chardonnay gives refreshing zesty flavours, lime juice, lemon zest, lemon grass, green melon, kiwi fruit with a lingering mineral line down the palate, a fresh mouth watering aftertaste.

The grapesfor this wine were picked from our 40 year old vines grown in the volcanic soilof the ancient Fordwich Sill. These low yielding mature vines produce ripe, concentrated fruitwhich results in a wine with excellent regional and varietal characters.

The 1908 block at the HVD Vineyard was hand-picked and basket pressed, with the juice cold settled for four days before fermentation began in stainless steel tanks. The fermenting juice was then transferred to French oak barriques, 30% of which were new. The wine is balanced between primary chardonnay fruit flavours and secondary flavours, derived from the minimal solids ferment and extended yeast lees contact, resulting in this wine's texture and mouthfeel. Lovely bright expression of old-vine Hunter Valley Chardonnay. Whole bunch pressed, taking only free run and light solids into concrete and large format French oak. Cirtus, cashews and creaminess from partial malolactic fermentation. Margan's white wines are some of the Hunter's best and their Chardonnay is right up there.
