Vasse Felix Tom Cullity Malbec Cabernet
With the 2013 vintage Vasse Felix renamed its flagship Cabernet blend. The wine that was Heytesbury is now Tom Cullity, named for the Margaret River pioneer who founded Vasse Felix in 1967. Langtons Classified under its previous name, Tom Cullity Cabernet Malbec is assured a place among Australias finest red wines. The wine is typically 75% cabernet sauvignon, 20% malbec and 5% petit verdot sourced from the original Vasse Felix vineyard planted by Dr Tom Cullity. Fruit parcels are picked in small blocks and fermented with wild yeasts; 52% static fermented and macerated on skins for 20 days or more; 48% open fermented and macerated for 10-15 days on skins. The wine then typically spends 18 months in French oak (about 60% new, 40% second to fifth use) and is fined with egg whites and racked before bottling with minimal filtration.
Jim Barry Wines St Clare Dry Red Cabernet Malbec
St Clare Dry Red Clare Valley Cabernet Malbec The Cabernet Sauvignon fruit is sourced from Watervale and the Malbec fruit is sourced from Lodge Hill. Malbec, of course, has a long history in the Clare and plays the Shiraz role (from the quintessential Australian blend) in filling out the Cabernet midpalate; all black fruit and dried herbs, savoury and well balanced. Focusing on the label of wine can often mean theres not enough going on in the bottle. But not in this case. The wine delivers a full and layered palate experience. While the label is an honest homage to the wines sold by Jim and Nancy Barry under their St Clare Cellars label before the name changed to Jim Barry Wines. Charmingly retro, the livery is a good reminder that the history of Cabernet and Malbec (and the Barrys) in the region goes back a long way; and the Clare Valley remembers. Yarra Yering Agincourt Cabernet Malbec
Bleasdale The Broad-Side Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec
Soft and generous in typical Langhorne Creek style, this blend from Bleasdale represents real value for money. Aromas of blackberry, mint and chocolate are followed by rich smooth flavours. Great stuff!
