Planted on terraces and alluvial schist based soils formed by the Mata-Au (Clutha) River producing perfumed wines with elegant texture, structure and mineral length.

A racy off-dry low alcohol style, the fruit for this Riesling is sourced off the north-facing Block 1 on the Elms vineyard, planted on deep silt loam soils. The Riesling is handpicked, whole bunch pressed and settled overnight before undergoing fermentation with wild yeasts. The fermentation is stopped early by chilling, retaining some residual sweetness and resulting in an alcohol of 9.0%. The wine is left on fine lees before bottling.

You are greeted on the nose with suggestions of bramble and spice, gradually opening up to reveal red and black berry fruits, spice, leather and subtle floral notes.The palate is soft and supple, with cranberries and sweet red berry fruits upon entry. Fine silky tannins entwine a concentrated core of juicy black cherries, dark berry fruits, dried herbs and cocoa before trailing off to a long even finish.

The 2013 Kanta Riesling is a youthful green gold in the glass. The nose entices with notes of lemon curd, buttery pastry, honeysuckle and kaffir lime leaf, backed by lovely tertiary notes of brown lime cordial and a hint of kerosene. The palate is yielding and fleshy, but remarkably fresh for 8 years old. At first the palate yields pineapple and baked lemon pudding, well supported by gentle acidity.
