Two words come to mind when you mention great Australian Merlot. Jim Irivne. Jim's Grand Merlot is the benchmark of complex and elegant Merlot in Australia and his Eden Valley vineyards are the perfect place to produce this iconic wine.

Chris Ringland Sealed Shiraz gives rich and intense flavours which resolve into jammy black fruits. It give a deep red-black colour with aromas of plum jam, milk chocolate and sweet vanilla ice cream infused custard cream.

Nitschke Block Shiraz displays rich, opulent fruit with a fantastic balance of texture. Lifted notes of greengage plums are first to emerge from what is a tightly-wound wine. There is also a warming spice element of subtle white pepper as well as some dark cherry and plum flavours.

The concept of blending Shiraz and Viognier was derived from the great French wine region of the Northern Rhône the Côte Rôtie area in particular. Using only the best Eden Valley fruit, this wine by Yalumba is rich in concentrated fruit flavour. Traditionally, the two different grape varieties for this wine have predominately been crushed and fermented together.

The nose has complex aromas of sarsaparilla, mulberries, tea leaf and fresh vanilla bean. There's a real smoky/gamey note to the fruits as well. The palate shows great tannin focus through the middle, flavours of red fruits and earth, with lovely intensity an a violet/lavender floral lift. Sitting at an altitude of 450m, Hampton Vineyard produces Shiraz with a surprising combination of finesse and power. Planted in 1982 this vineyard thrives on a silty, sandy-loam soil over red ironstone clay. The fruit was handled traditionally and matured for 10 months in seasoned French oak. Fruit was harvested in the cool of the morning and delivered to the winery where it was destemmed into an open top fermenter. After thirteen days on skins the wine was basket pressed before overnight settling and racking to seasoned French oak. Ten months maturation in oak before blending and bottling. Partners in crime and explorers at heart, Andrew and Skye Quin are the team behind Quin wines. Having travelled the world together, they finally settled in the Barossa, with a trailer of second-hand furniture and heads full of dreams. Andrew has spent the last 10 years as Chief Winemaker for Hentley Farm, during which time he has collected a swathe of awards and accolades. But 2018 saw the launch of his own brand: Quin Wines. His philosophy is simple - respect tradition, but continue to push boundaries. And that bigger is not always better!

I love the purity and vitality of Grenache, and my approach in the winery is very much around preserving and promoting varietal character, and ensuring the wine is an honest expression of the region and that particular vineyard. Theres lifted fresh maraschino cherry with spicy cinnamon and clove aromas on the nose and the palate is loaded with delicious, juicy, fleshy & succulent Grenache flavours with terrific depth and richness. And whilst the variety is renowned for producing age worthy wines, Id recommend enjoying this as a young wine when the fruits are bright and fresh. Corey Ryan.

The cool hills of the Eden Valley has produced a Pinot Noir of intense colour and rich flavour. The aromas of strawberry and cherry are eveident on the nose. A hint of cinnamon and clove spice also contribute to the aromatics of this wine. Layered flavours of Strawberry, Black Cherry and Plum have integrated well with clove spice to coat the mouth. The palate is soft and elegant.

Dewey Station Wines is all about good humour, good times and serious wines. Graciano is not the most common variety seen in the market today, but this little ripper will be welcomed with open arms. A Spanish varietal that grows with both attitude and flair in the Barossa Valley. An aromatic delight with bright florals and violets leaping from the glass. Followed by strawberry, blackcurrant jelly crystals, orange peel and sweet earth aromas. This seductive, food friendly number is sure to find a permanent home at your dinner table.
