The Beechworth terroir has a distinctive fruit character of pear/peach fruit. The oak has minimal impact by using older French oak and mainly puncheons. The warm year has meant less citrus lift but has bran meal notes from the wild ferment and extended lees contact. The palate is quite rich with zesty acid line through to the finish. This is Churchview's premium Chardonnay, made in an organic and sustainable way. The fruit was handpicked from the premium block at optimal ripeness while retaining natural acidity. It was wild fermented and left to mature in French oak for ten months with regular bâtonnage to build concentration, complexity, and character. This wine saw 45% brand-new French oak for its maturation.

The 2021 vintage was marked by low yields, ensuring that the crop was harvested at optimal ripeness and in ideal condition. Although bird pressure was high and unpredictable rainfall during the growing season and throughout harvest presented challenges, the artisanal nature of our wines prevailed. Wines of excellent balance and fruit purity, a vintage similar to 2003 in style. Best varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. A clean introduction of citrus blossom and white flowers wraps the palate, followed by vibrant notes of mandarins and pink grapefruits. The transitions to a textural mid-palate with flavors of pink lady apples and Bosc pear, culminating in a crisp finish marked by a clean minerality.
