Forrest Estate now have vineyards in premium Otago and Gimlett Gravels but grapes for Field of Stones Sauvignon are pure Marlborough, grown on the very stony soil adjacent to the Forrest winery, hence the name ‘Field of Stones’. The fruit is harvested in the cool of the night and early morning to maximise the mineral freshness and the lemon thyme, elderflower and guava flavours. Bring on the seafood platter!

Wine description: Aromatic dried herbs and wildflowers with a fruity bouquet and flavours of guava, honeydew melon and pear. A subtle burst of citrus and pleasant acid delivers nice harmony and a long dry finish to the sweetly fruited palate. winemakers comments: Our Pinot Gris is made from fruit grown on our Tiger, and Sinclair vineyards in the Parkburn area of Cromwell. All the grapes are hand harvested and fermented in small lots in stainless steel tanks helping to retain fruit purity and finesse. With lifted aromas of dark cherry and berry fruit with underlying notes of mocha and cinnamon giving way to a sumptuous palate of bramble and spice characters with considerable length.

This wine highlights the slightly cooler season with lovely perfumed dark red forest berries and cherry fruits along with a hint of dried herb, adding complexity. The wine has a sweet berry entry which displays these same characters in abundance. Lovely ripe textural tannins rise gracefully out of the mid-palate to finish the wine. These are balanced by the wines acidity and fruit, to produce a long fruit-driven finish.

The aromatics are alive with poached pear, guava, peach and spice. The palate is expressive with a textural mouth feel and great length of flavour. A classic natural acid line retains balance and structure, finishing with a light spice.
