With the Southern Ocean coastline just minutes from Gemtree's vineyards, the maritime influence runs deep at this winery. Choosing sites that offer the greatest varietal expression, concentration and finesse, the wine then saw maturation in French oak of sizes ranging from barriques (225L) to puncheons (500L) for 12 months. The result is a foreboding Shiraz that displays notes of blueberry, blackcurrant, aniseed and balancing earthen touch. Ideal served on its own to fully appreciate the rich and complex flavours but also at home when paired with French cutlets and slow cooked duck.

Especially when the sourcing here is premium all the way; the estate vineyards near Bendigo, plus top tier vineyards in Heathcote, the Pyrenees and Grampians regions. With all portions destined for far higher priced wines, this is a scoop to dive on. Cascading black and purple fruits, plush and silky from start to finish, all wrapped in lovely length and structure. Sensational!

Taylors Shiraz continues to be one of the most outstanding value for money Shiraz available. Widely acclaimed by many critics, this Shiraz is true to its region and variety, showing ripe plum and blackberry fruit with minty notes in the background. A touch of vanillin oak adds some wonderful interest.

Mainstay of the big Barossa red wine, Grant Burge produces a South Australian Shiraz with a slightly different angle. A luscious, yet delicately sweet fruited Shiraz with trademark flavours of red currant, ripe cherry and strawberry notes. In balance tannins and acid give a quite mellow mouthfeel that is perfectly suited a wide array of cuisine.

With a history going back to George Wyndham and his planting of vines in 1830, this heritage is honoured with varietal styles like this Shiraz.
