De Bortoli Noble One Botrytis Semillon

Langton's Classification: Excellent

The Noble One by De Bortoli is considered Australia's premier dessert wine, and for obvious reasons. The wine has won countless awards at the leading wine shows around the country and has a wonderful propensity to develop even further in the bottle. The 2002 Noble One is a classic expression of the style with rich apricot treacle characters with fig and orange blossom still active on the nose and palate. Hints of vanilla bean and a refreshing acidity on the finish mean this decade old wine will continue to live in the cellar for many years more.

Cookoothama Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

Fresh lifted aromas of lemon, lime, guava and pineapple. On the palate, zesty flavours of lemon, lime and grapefruit with a small portion of Semillon adding complexity and mouth feel before leading to a crisp dry finish.

But after 30-odd years working for other wineries, he took the big step of setting up on his own in 2018 – and, being an old friend of ours, we backed him every step of the way. Lifted aromas of ripe peach, nectarine and cantaloupe and mixed spice with toasty notes. On the palate, complex flavours of ripe peaches and cream with lively nectarine, biscuit and yeast notes and mineral like acidity.

The Shiraz is sourced from our Cookoothama Vineyard on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River at Darlington Point in the Riverina. Complex aromas of ripe berry and spice. Full-bodied wine displaying elegant tannins and powerful fruit concentration with a well-structured palate of dark cherry and blackberry melded with earthy overtones and well-integrated oak.

The Brown Brothers Ginger and Lime Spritz is a fresh twist on the Ginger flavoured beverages that are so popular right now. The colour is a vibrant light gold. On the nose it is lifted with fresh ginger, finger lime and juicy green grapes. The wine is vibrant and moreish and best served cold or over ice.

Flor de San Martín Garnacha Blanca

Spain’s Navarra is full of surprises, producing styles from traditional and oaky to the most modern and fresh. Flor de San Martín is certainly in the latter camp, a brilliantly zippy fresh white made only from grapes grown in high altitude vineyards in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Little rain and these dizzy heights mean lovely intensity of crisp fruit and lifted herbal aromas – flavours that are unique to the region. This white will really get the taste buds tingling! It’s from winemaker Gonzalo Zelayeta, who works his magic at the modern San Martín de Unx winery, founded back in 1914. From hand-picked (impossible with machines) grapes and cool fermented, this is a refreshing glassful. Tops with seafood, salads and lighter dishes.

Jim Barry Clare Valley Assyrtiko

A founding member of Australia’s First Families of Wine, Jim Barry is a legendary Clare Valley out t. Its wines run the gamut of styles (and prices) from the renowned Jim Barry Watervale Riesling ($20) through to the magnf cent ‘Armagh’ Shiraz ($325). Assyrtiko is a lipsmacking white variety originally from Greece, now grown in Clare, in this exciting first. A tantalising taste of Santorini, Australian-style – delicious! “Garrique bush and flowers bouquet; the vines have grown another dimension, as has the flavour intensity, which is almost shocking - sour lemon, fresh-cut herbs, red apple... 94pts” (Halliday).

De Bortoli Colombard Chardonnay blend has beautifully match the high acidity, fuller bodied Colomblard with the aromatic Chardonnay we all knew so well. Packed with zesty citrus, tropical fruits on the nose. A refreshingly dry whte great with richer seafood dishes.
