From Kilikanoon’s Clare Valley heartland – this cuvée makes use of fruit from several ‘Settlement’ blocks in Leasingham originally given to soldiers returning from the World Wars. Warm days and cool nights yield Shiraz of terrific power, elegance and length. If you were hanging out in South Australia in the 1880’s, you’d know Pikes for their beers. Fast forward 100 years and and several generations and the Pike family has firmly established themselves as one of the premier wine producers in the Clare Valley. Hops and grapevines, a rather abstract take on the tradition family tree. Their Cottage shiraz speaks loudly of the Clare style - a bit less dense than wines from the neighbouring Barossa, but still deep and concentrated with all the hallmarks of an Aussie’s favourite red.

This Shiraz is sourced from only the best vineyards and crafter to pay homage to William Light's legacy for exploring, surveying and planning numerous famous South Australian icons. This deep red Shiraz is filled with aromas of blackberry and plum intergrated with toasty vanillian oak. On the palate it delivers layers of spice, cherries and chocolate flavours, with well-balanced tannins.

Kilikanoon...one of the Clare’s absolute best and one of our absolute faves. Ridgeline isn’t just a marketing term for this shiraz. The grapes are sourced from a few rows at the very top of the hill on their Morrison’s Vineyard, overlooking the town of Watervale. There’s a smidge of new oak used here, but the majority is older barrels to the tune of 15 months. This provides a bit of texture and structure while still letting that fruit sing. We found dark cherry, plum, dried herbs and licorice all wrapped up in a savoury blanket with a lengthy finish and ripe tannins. Another hit from a producer that seems to know no other way.

Inspired by those delectable, food friendly blends from the south of France we have crafted a fresh and aromatic GSM that greets the drinker with savoury earthy aromas and succulent strawberries followed by hints of rosehip and fresh herbs. The true craft of the winemaker is the intricate art of blending. This wine is a prime expression of that artistic talent; the weaving together of various elements to enhance and complement each other resulting in a finished product far greater than the individual components. A cracker wine, fresh and juicy possessing crunchy tannins and savoury fresh mushroom character. The mid palate is full of floral red-currant fruit, with some choc-mint and fresh leather on the finish. This wine is unfiltered and matured for 10 months in older oak to preserve maximum primary fruit lift and intensity. An accessible wine of surprising length and complexity totally slurpable (yes it IS a word).
