Mike Alyward has made a bit of a habit of crafting one of our most sought after Pinot Gris in recent times and the current vintage rates as one of his finest. It has a delicious mouth-filling texture, courtesy of some lees aging in old barriques and seamlessly combines fresh floral and pear notes with hints of honeyed complexity.

Made with a nod to the great wines of Germany and Austria, this bright sweet Riesling based wine is loaded with orange zest, lemon blossom. Pressing Matters R139 Riesling is a delicious dessert wine showing a pale straw colour. The bouquet of this wine highlights the sweet aromas of Riesling that sweep across the dainty palate as well. Pear Eau de Vie, quince, ginger and citrus chutney flavours stream across the palate before being corralled into the long, clean and delicate finish. The wine is lovely with soft cheeses and fruit-based desserts.

Quartz Reef Pinot Gris exhibits flavours of ripe pear, peach and marzipan with a rich texture and an off-dry mineral finish. Colour is lemon gold. Aroma is nutmeg, honey, ginger and white peach. The palate is rich and textural with a delicious fine acidity. Cellaring is 3-5 years.

Peregrine's Pinot Gris serves up some interest that goes beyond New Zealand's most famous white variety. Instead of kiwifruit and gooseberries, savour Pinot Gris' poached pears and red apples. There's some crisp acidity hiding in the back that keeps the palate fresh, with some mealy texture providing a nice mouthfeel.
