Oakridge are well known for their white wine styles, especially their Chardonnay, but don't forget the Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that can do so well. Lovely lifted spice; bright and attractive cassis fruit and layers of fine grained tannin will greet the drinker and will be welcomed by any serious Cabernet lover.

The Eden Hall Cabernet Sauvignon from the Eden Valley is a wonderfully striking Cabernet with swathes of lifted violets, ripe plums and blackcurrant all supported by a quality oak regime that has integrated brilliantly. While youthful the wine is plump and juicy, it will age very nicely and improve with some careful cellaring over the next decade.

Wynns 'Red Stripe' Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot continues to be a market leader and beacon for quality wine at an affordable price. Cabernet brings cassis and mint, while spice and plummy fruit is provided by the Shiraz and Merlot. Drink now or cellar for a year or two.

Château Gloria is the lifes work of Henri Martin, who's Cabernet based wines are very individualistic. The Château has never joined the Syndicat des Crus Bourgeois. This allows Henri to be a little more creative and produce wines of great concentration for prices that are easily approachable. The 2008 is a great example of the Château Gloria style and has been rated 90 points by Robert Parker Jnr.

Full bodied displaying raspberry and plum. Complex, with good depth of flavour.

While Durif is not widely grown in Australia but has a loyal following nonetheless. De Bortoli Deen Vat 1 is an excellent example, showing typically deep colour and lots of rich, ripe fruit supported by firm tannins. Perfect when paired with a thick cut steak and roasted vegetables.

Jacob's Creek are rightfully known for producing amazing value for money wines with vibrant fruit with a smooth finish. Their Shiraz is skilfully blended, medium-bodied red wine with ripe plum and berry fruit flavours mellow tannins and subtle oak integration.
