The Butchers Block is a traditional Barossa blend made with grapes selected from the Turkey Flat vineyards, including some from the original old vine plantings. It is a blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvédre (Mataro). 'Part of the grapes come from the home vineyard that has some of the oldest vines in the Barossa, planted by Peter Schulz's great-grandfather Ernest Schulz. The wine has the drive, focus and intensity often missing from this Barossa blend; that said, there are both black and distinctly red fruit components, and the tannins are firm. In 1843, Dr Lindeman, an upstanding man of formidable character, started his own winery. In doing so, he set his sights on civilising a colony of hard-drinking ruffians by introducing them to more gentlemanly pursuits, such as the enjoyment of a refined drop. This longheld tradition continues today with this handsome Cabernet Sauvignon, rich in blackcurrant and cassis, with a dash of fortified wine for a smooth finish. A fine wine by anyones standard.

Aged for a decade, this wine has the decadent, rich raisin palate of a fine Christmas cake. A true, barrell-aged Tawny Port, a dash of dry sherry adds complexity while the finish is long, luscious and luxurious. The perfect gift!

There is plenty of flavour here - raisins, toffee, liquorice - in this soft, smooth and sweet fortified. Satisfying and well priced.
