This single block Shiraz is crafted to the highest standards, utilising fruit from one of the Coonawarras most outstanding Shiraz vineyards. It epitomises the purity and elegance of cool climate Coonawarra.Fruit for this wine comes entirely from Tim Kidmans vineyard; specifically blocks 1 and 2 which our winemaking team have selected for special treatment due to the exceptional quality. These established vines are 50+ years old, and rest in classic terra rossa over limestone soils. They are naturally low yielding (approximately 3t/Ha), producing beautifully concentrated fruit that thrives from minimal, hand tended viticulture.After being hand harvested on the 26th of March, 2020 fruit was fermented in open static fermenters for 14 days. Malolactic fermentation was conducted in stainless steel before being barrelled down to premium French oak (25% new) for 18 months maturation. Bottled on 29th November, 2021 and allowed to settle and mature in bottle prior to release in April 2022.

The remnants of an ancient seabed formed the hard-packed Limestone base which atop sits the famous Coonawarra Red Terra-Rossa. Even today the marine life can be seen with the soft rock providing a natural filter for the water pooled in the aquifer below. A millennium in creation, it is these features combined that provide almost perfect conditions for premium grapes to grow. The ocean breeze still blows from the west providing the cool nights to compliment the warm days and development of flavour for our Coonawarra wines.

Elegant yet powerful Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. Lifted aromas of blackberry and plum, dried sage, mint and tobacco with overlaid with cedar oak notes. An intense and flavour-filled palate of plums, blackberries complemented with sturdy but well balance tannins holding together a long lingering finish.

The Vocation Series pays tribute to John Riddoch’s multifaceted capabilities and the many vocations he had in his lifetime, reflected by the ultimate expression of Coonawarra’s varietal diversity. Linking single vineyard wines and interesting wine-making techniques with the personality evoked by Riddoch’s various professions. John Riddoch’s wool clip was the most highly prized wool in South Australia. He also established the Coonawarra wine region in 1890 with the aspiration of making the finest wine in the country. The Pastoralist Cabernet Sauvignon pays homage to this history as the flagship varietal for Coonawarra. Vibrant cassis, blackberry and violet notes, silky tannins and underlying cedar oak design this classic Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon.
