It was the Tate family who began Evans & Tate decades ago and today the Tate name is re-born under the Franklin Tate Estates label. Franklin, son of John, has sourced some of the most prestigious vineyard sites in Margaret River and has highly regarded winemaker Rory Clifton-Parks to handcraft the quality wines. The Semillon Sauvignon Blanc is a traditional Margaret River blend that displays characters of lifted lemon and a hint of cut grass. The palate is refreshing and cleansing with a lovely crisp finish.

For lovers of the classic sem sav blend, it doesn’t get much better than this. It’s pure Margaret River, Australia’s home of great SSB, and brimming with freshness and vibrancy. There’s the usual lime, nectarine and grassiness, but this one’s got a little more going on with hints of tea leaves and even some jalapeño spiciness. Cleansing, punchy and complex - everything you could ask for from a sem sav.

Pale straw colour with nettles, limes, guava and tropical fruits combine to produce a complex nose, which is enhanced with some butterscotch lees characters. The palate is vibrant and fresh with a lovely concentration of tropical and subtle tropical flavours. The wine finishes with persistence and a lingering attractive textural flavour.

When the days are long and the sun ceases to shine, do yourself a favour and free-pour another glass of this glistening full-flavoured Margaret River chardonnay. Now is the time to lap up all this world-renowned region and grape variety have to offer, for the secret is out, but the price is still proportionately low for such consistent quality - and it doesn’t get better than this. Lemony but rich in classic chardonnay decadence, this is the bottle to grab on your way to fish n chips set upon an ocean view, or perhaps there’s a grilled chicken caesar salad to pair with on your best buds’ balcony. We know life will feel complete when you choose to pop the lid off this delicious drop.

We bought our bottle for just under $13 during a recent visit to Wollongong and came back for seconds. What a delight it is - crisp, fresh, smoothly textured and packed with juicy, nectarine-like varietal flavour. A blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, this attractive white from Leeuwin Estate shows concentrated tropical fruit characters, such as honeydew melons, pineapples and fresh lime along with aromatic floral notes of Jasmine, frangipani with hints of warm spices on the nose. It is well rounded with vibrant citrus fruits and balanced acidity on the palate. Length finish and great with Asian food.
