We all know the Barossa, and likely this icon of a wine, but do we really know it’s history? Introducing to you pioneers of this famed region, with this winery established way back in 1891. They show no mercy when it comes to staying true to the region: meaty, bold, and focused reds with a whole lot of character. You know what we’re talking about: eye-catching hues of purple, soft and silky tannins, and more plummy goodness than you can poke a stick at. There’s cherry and rhubarb sure, but we’re talking unapologetic notes of chocolate, toasty oak and handfuls of freshly cracked pepper. It’s a showstopper, and built to impress even the most discerning of critics.

A full and fruity Shiraz, Kaesler Old Bastard is fresh on the nose with hints of blackberries, raspberries and blueberries. On the palate, forest fruits, blackberry and mulberry mingle with spices of anise and nutmeg with some coffee and chocolate notes. Tannins are silky and balanced, with a nice acidity. This shiraz will cellar for 20+ years.

Deep purple with violet hues. Alluring aromas of mulberry, blue and black berries, red plum and fresh vanilla bean are carried by nuances of crushed lavender, flowering herbs, bay leaf and black pepper. The palate is wonderfully structured, revealing intense flavours of red berry fruits, dark plum and Swiss chocolate, and finishing rich and textured, with fine-grained tannins and extraordinary length.

The bouquet and palate show an intense mixture of ripe berry fruits combined with vanilla and spice overtones whilst fine grained, integrated tannins add further complexity. The prestigious USA Wine & Spirit magazine selected our 1860 vines plantings as one of the 25 great vineyards of the world further reinforcing the priceless inheritance of these unique releases.

Graveyard Vineyard is the jewel in the Brokenwood crown, responsible for the company's flagship wines. The vineyard was planted with Shiraz vines in 1970 - extremely heavy clay soils, yields are low, but fruit flavour is intense through employment of meticulous vinification techniques. Strong lifted aromas of sweet earth and dark cherry greet the olfactory senses. Oak features, but will soften and integrate given some patience. Initial flavours of dark chocolate and ripe plums are beautifully lashed to ripe tannins lending an edge of cedar.

McWilliam's Mount Pleasant Maurice O'Shea Shiraz continues lead the pack of great Hunter Valley Shiraz. A lovely return to old form, this Maurice has a striking purple hue to it in the glass. To the nose aromas of liquorice and spice with hints of cedar will beguile. Layers of complex flavours dance across the palate including savoury, spicy dark fruits like dark plums and cherries. A classic of classics.
