Produced in England since 1740, Stones Green Ginger Wine has been made in Australia to the same ancient formula since the early 1960s. The character of the ginger is drawn out by infusing it for an extended period. This infusion is then added to a neutral dry white wine, before it is then blended further with other components to make one of the varieties of wines under the Stones family label. Deep golden brown in colour with intense pungent ginger and spice aromas. Fiery ginger flavours are balanced by a rich, unctuous sweetness.

Deep plum colour with bright red hues. It has a pure varietal nose, which is lifted and delicate, yet precise and pure. The wine displays ripe and concentrated blackcurrant and plum flavours, with subtle herbaceous and mint notes from the Limestone Coast. With a spicyncedar coffee mid palate, integrated oak and fine grained tannins, this wine has a wonderfully structured finish.

2016 Penfolds Bin 138 Shiraz Grenache Mataro 750ml is a delicate blend from the Barossa Valley wine region. Christmas cake aromas are evident on the nose and the palate is textured with an old Barossa disposition. A lengthy finish make this blend particularly enjoyable. Medium deep colour. Lovely juicy blackberry, dark plum aromas with ginger, savoury oak notes. Generous and polished in structure with dark plum, blackberry, ginger flavours, fine looseknit slinky textures and underlying roasted walnut, mocha notes. Finishes chocolaty and long with bitter sweet notes. A really attractive wine with lovely density and vinosity. Really great to drink soon, to take advantage of the ripe youthful and buoyant fruit, but should keep for quite a while developing an earthy complexity. Andrew Caillard MW93 Points
