YANGARRA ESTATE VINEYARD Ovitelli Grenache, McLaren Vale

The McLaren Vale can be considered the true home of Grenache blends here in Australia witho some of the oldest vines in the world being dry grown there. Steve Maglieri's Serafino label provides a rich and delicious GSM blend a nose of rose petal and tobacco. The palate flows on with dense coffee and cedar notes that glide across the tongue.

Aromas of raspberry, red rose petal perfume, forest floor. The palate shows summer berry fruits, wild herbs, lively mouth feel with light sandy tannins. Raspberry chocolate bullets, black tea leaves and gutsy earthiness to finish, pleasant after grip and a sweet trickle of fruit on the back palate.

Clear, bright, light crimson purple. Crisp and lively florals, roses and lavender. Red berries, a touch of cinnamon and strawberry, with a hint of spicy talk. Juicy, opulent red fruits and a lovely warming spice. Sweet, bright cherries compliment soft, abundant chalky tannins. Great length of flavour.

The Parson GSM is a traditional take on three of McLaren Vale's most important and historical varieties. The wine displays hints of rosemary and aniseed the nose. The big palate is layered with liquorice and dark chocolate flavours that are beautifully interwoven into the textured firm tannin structure.

Grenache has always been a cornerstone of d'Arenberg's red wines and this is one of the benchmarks of the variety. Produced from old low yielding vines it is a wine of great character and intensity. Showing none of the sickly confectionery characters that can plague this variety, it's all about elegant, savoury spice.

Dark plums and blackberries are entwined with raspberry and a subtle savoury spice and lifted violet florals producing a wine that is interesting yet fun.

This wine is vibrant, perfumed Grenache with classic raspberry, musk and earthy notes. Serve lightly chilled. McLaren Vale is Australias foremost region for Grenache, where it was historically largely used for fortified wines and as a workhorse blending variety, frequently with Shiraz and Mourvedre/Mataro. Full-bodied examples rival Australias greatest Shiraz wines and this particular style, which highlights the varietys inherent deep red fruit characters, is fast gaining in popularity. 2015 Clarendon Hills Domaine Clarendon Grenache, Deep dark red colour with black tinged edges and a dark red hue. Intense dark to black raspberry aromas intermingle with dark plum and liquorice followed by vanillin confectionary and spice. Rich, voluptuous in texture and exceptionally long in the mouth, this is one powerful Grenache. Succulent black raspberry flavours dominate over liquorice and ripe black cherries. There’s an echo of vanillin confectionary on the finish and loads of spice. Bright acidity with firm yet balanced tannins providing a robust framework. Very long conclusion of black raspberries, liquorice, vanillin confectionary and spicy pepper.
