The winery was established in 1999 by the Pfeiffer family, who have a long history in the Australian wine industry. Zilzie Wines takes its name from the nearby Zilzie Lake, which is known for its beautiful orange sunsets. Zilzie Wines is known for producing a wide range of high-quality wines with a focus on creating approachable and fruit-driven wines that showcase the unique flavours of the Australian terroir. Gaining recognition and wards for their wines both domestically and internationally has contributed to their reputation as a respected Australian winery. The Orange Tree Cabernet Merlot has purple hues and is medium crimson in colour. The palate has flavours of dark cherry, mulberry, and plums with velvety tannins and layers of soft oak.

The estate has been devoted to winemaking since the Gallo-Roman period. In 1787, General Jacques de Carles, wishing to commemorate for all time the pleasure that he enjoyed staying there, named the estate “Beau-Séjour” (meaning “lovely stay”). In 1969, Michel Bécot acquired the château and brought the area under vine up to 18.50 hectares thanks to the purchase of neighbouring vineyard plots with the same terroir. He also turned seven hectares of former underground limestone quarries into a storage cellar where tens of thousands of bottles age under ideal conditions. His work in improving and embellishing the estate went on until his retirement in 1985. His two sons, Gérard and Dominique, have followed in their father’s footsteps while introducing numerous technical innovations to both the cellars and the vineyard. Only the ripest, healthiest grapes are now harvested, and then sorted one by one. Gérard’s daughter, Juliette, started working at the château in 2001 in order to market wines from the family estate. 'Located immediately west of the magical town of Saint-Émilion on the Saint-Martin de Mazerat limestone plateau, Beau-Séjour Bécot is in the heart of the appellation.'

McHenry Hohnen is the quintessential family owned business with Murry McHenry and David Hohnen being brothers-in-law and the winemaking now being handled by David's son-in-law Ryan Walsh. With decades of Western Australian winemaking and selling history behind David and Murray the wines being produced are of utmost purity and subtlety. The Burnside Chardonnay is a relative recent addition to the range and is a funky, wild little number with attractive stone fruit characters that are balanced by a beautiful natural acidity.
