CLARENDON HILLS Clarendon Onkaparinga Grenache, McLaren Vale
Ivyburn Aldersey Shiraz
This is a smart wine. It feels very harmonious, there's fruit intensity but it's not *too* fruity, there's present oak but it's not *too* overpowering, there's spice and tannin but they're not *too* drying. Everything has been worked into this classy number in thoughtful moderation and the result is a wine greater than the sum of its parts. From the well known, hand-tended, vineyards of the Willunga sub-region of McLaren Vale, picked in the (widely lorded) year of 2021 - it's safe to say we were holding this one to a pretty high standard. Well, this wine exceeded even our lofty expectations. Juicy dark mulberry and black cherry, vibrant spiced plum and chocolate characters are expressed with both intensity and complexity. Subtle, but ever present, oak characters manifest themselves in slight chocolate and vanilla notes along with fine grained tannins and build to a silky, spice driven finish. Happy to sit in the cellar for 15+ years, but why delay happiness right?
Curtis The Gladiator Shiraz
Deep, dark and rich. Opulent in its weight, full of plum, chocolate and vanillin oak. So smooth and long in the mouth.
Lloyd Brothers Reserve Shiraz
The 2022 Estate Shiraz is hand crafted from grapes grown on blocks 1, 9 and 10 of the Lloyd Brothers McLaren Vale Estate. Each parcel was selectively picked and fermented in small open fermenters, then basket pressed to new and seasoned French oak. After 14 months the best barrels were selected to create the Estate Shiraz. This wine shows lovely rich, ripe, dark berry fruit on the palate with overtones of mocha, spice, black pepper and liquorice. Approachable in its youth this wine will happily age for 10+ years.
Yangarra Ironheart Shiraz
Two Hands Mclaren Vale Shiraz
The Two Hands McLaren Vale Shiraz 2000 is a quintessential example of the bold and robust reds that this region is known for. A deep, dark ruby hue greets the eye, hinting at the intensity of flavors to come. On the nose, intense aromas of ripe blackberry, plum, and dark chocolate mingle with subtle hints of vanilla and spice. On the palate, this full-bodied Shiraz is velvety smooth, with a perfect balance between ripe fruit and oak influence. The tannins are firm yet well-integrated, providing a long and satisfying finish. With its rich and complex flavors, this vintage is a testament to Two Hands Wines' commitment to quality and balance. Decanting is recommended to fully appreciate the depth and layers of this wine. Enjoy now or cellar for another 5-10 years for even more complexity. Pair with a hearty beef stew or grilled lamb chops for a truly indulgent experience.
Yangarra Old Vine Grenache
While certainly lighter, more elegant, and a different style to that of some of previous years, the 2011 vintage is one of the greatest Grenache vintages Yangarra has ever produced. The white pepper spice is telling of such a cool year, and is married with bright cherries and raspberry alongside complex hints of liquorice, chicory and cured meats. The tannins are fine and delicate, and the acidity alike.
