A wonderful Barolo from Maretti showcasing great value for the region. The colour is dark garnet with ruby highlights. It has a clear-cut, intense nose with overtones of roses, spices, earthy undertones with nuanced vanilla notes. The taste is dry, but soft, full-bodied, velvety and well balanced, and is very long-lasting. Classic Barolo like this works well with rich braised meat dishes or a mushroom risotto.

Grown in the Langhe region of Piedmont, this Nebbiolo will age for the short to medium term however it is also made to drink beautifully when young. Coming from what most regard as the spiritual home of the Nebbiolo grape the wine shows the typical structure and freshness of this variety when grown with care and attention to detail. Just outside the town of Neive, the Fausoni cru produces wines of elegance, with a velvety personality. Notes of spices, menthol, eucalyptus and sweet red fruits abound, while the palate typically shows lovely richness and persistence, finishing with fine grained minerally tannins and a hint of menthol. A beautiful, refined Barbaresco, with a 15-20 year cellar life.

Ca' Rome' Romano Marengo Rapet Barolo The Rapet Barolo presents as an intense garnet red in the glass with ruby hues. The nose is full of fruity aromas with floral and spicy notes. On the palate, the flavour is intense buttressed by opulent and enveloping tannins and a long finish. The Rapet fruit is sourced from a southwestern vineyard located in Serralunga dAlba. The soils go back to the Helvetian period and comprises compact calcareous clay that alternates with sandy layers at 350-371 metres above sea level. Maceration lasts 20 days using a traditional method of maceration called steccatura at a temperature that never exceeds 30°C. This method involves wedging stocks into the vat to hold the cap (grape skins and pulp) down below the surface of the juice. This slow, gentle extractraction coaxes the signature tannins from the Nebbiolo grape skins. Aged for 24 months in 25 hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels with a portion of it part aged in barrique. The wine is further aged in-bottle for at least 12 months.

In 1904 a co-operative winery called Ai Vino Delle Langhe was founded and a young man who worked there was Alfred Prunotto. Prunotto took over the estate in 1922, giving it his own name and today it is run under the umbrella of the famous Marchesi Antinori family. Located in Alba the estate tends around 50 hectares of vineyards throughout the Langhe and Monferrato. This Nebbiolo is garnet red in colour with ample and complex aromas of violets and berry fruit, full and velvety in flavour and very balanced. Its structure and body make it an ideal match for meat and game dishes and for cheese.

Classically pale in the glass, Nebbiolo is a deceptive and beautiful wine by Pizzini. The nose is all allure and seduction with classic, deep rose petal perfume, plenty of anise-scented spice and bright red fruits. The palate's deep, juicy and mouth-filling red cherry and plum flavours run on sturdy tannins, laced with liquorice and finishing bright.
