Chapel Hill's Michael Fragos loves using the Parsons label to showcase McLaren Vale's diversity and varietal character. Church Block first appeared back in 1972 under the watchful eye of Greg Trott who was taken by one of the original vineyards that ran alongside the small Bethany Church, across the road from Wirra Wirra's old ironstone cellars. Up in the foothills of the Mount Lofty ranges, a Kangarilla vineyard offers Indian spice complexities that many higher priced wines would simply love to have. The added length and savoury tannins of this component and the use of some French oak result in a beguiling final release that is extraordinary.

This Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon is a robust and powerful blend, embodying the classic Australian red. It offers vibrant aromas of dark plum and blackberry, lifted by a subtle hint of eucalyptus. The palate reveals rich layers of dark chocolate and cracked black pepper, supported by firm, youthful tannins and a beautifully long, spicy finish.

Pirramimma Stock's Hill McLaren Vale Cabernet is deep brick red in colour with lifted fruit on the nose. The palate shows excellent blackcurrant varietal flavour with well integrated American oak. A great wine for the price.
