919 Wines Reserve Riverland Durif

919 Durif is not for the faint-hearted. It has an intense aroma of violet, spice, mint, chocolate and mulberry leaf. The palate has lashings of flavour with berry fruits, cinnamon and nutmeg spices, and hints of tobacco over a foundation of mulberry leaf and American oak, finishing long, firm and dry. This full-bodied style goes particularly well with beef or kangaroo fillet served with a quondong or caramelised onion sauce. Surprisingly, it also goes well with pavlova with mixed berry topping. Drink now, or cellar up to 15 years. Older wine will benefit from decanting before serving. Serve at room temperature, and consumer within 3 days of opening.

ATR Hard Hill Road Petit Syrah

Also known as Durif, these thick-skinned black grapes produce majestic wines of depth and character. With his many years of experience with this variety, Adam is one of the few winemakers who dare to plant it in the cooler climate. Grown on our Hard Hill Road vineyard in Great Western, these Petite Sirah grapes were carefully fermented in small tanks and barrels where, apart from a daily hand-plunge, they received very little intervention. After about three weeks on skins, the wine was gently pressed before being aged in 500L American puncheons for 18 months. Warm, generous and aromatic. Cassis, blueberries, anise, violets and rose petals; with elegant tannins providing a remarkably long and lively finish. Already showing a wonderfully gregarious personality, this Petite Sirah will evolve and gain further complexity and elegance over decades in the cellar.

The flavours are well balanced with crushed berries, cherries, chocolate, liquorice and spice, mint and jube and a fresh acidity.
