The 2023 Bursaria Pinot Noir marks a quiet triumph for Henschke’s Lenswood vineyard, harvested just a few years after the devastating Cudlee Creek bushfire. Prue and Stephen Henschke’s regeneration of this Adelaide Hills site has led to a release that’s not only poised and varietally pure, but also deeply expressive of its restored landscape. Made entirely from pinot noir grown on steep, cool-climate slopes, it opens with lifted aromatics of red cherry, wild strawberry and bergamot, layered with tomato stem, thyme and forest floor. The palate is bright and silken, with fine tannins framing a vibrant core of raspberry and morello cherry. Matured in seasoned French oak barriques for 18 months, it carries both finesse and quiet persistence. Greenock is a long standing subregion in the Barossa Valley known for rich, silken, dark-fruited wines. When you mix that terroir-driven history with a winery like Kalleske you have a match made in heaven. Able to fully utilise the deeply concentrated flavours produced by the Greenock fruit, the skilled team has bottle a full-bodied Barossa Shiraz that is overflowing with fruit, balanced tannins and seamless oak. Given some time and a nice decant and this single vineyard Shiraz will open up wonderfully.

The Reserva Tempranillo blend from iconic Riojan producer, Marqués de Riscal is made from fruit sourced from outstanding vineyard sites that are in excess of 15 years of age. This fruit is able to withstand the lengthy maturation process in oak due to the fine, complex tannin and acid structure. The resulting wine is classically savoury with notes of dark berries and toasty oak. The palate is long and rounded with interesting hint of spice.

From some of the earliest plantings of Shiraz in the Yarra Valley with vines dating back to 1969. Shiraz (96%) co-fermented with small parcels of Viognier, Marsanne and Mataro aged 12 to 18 months in 50% new French oak barrels produces a wine that is perfumed and feminine with the tannins and acidity as integral to the wine as the fruit.
