ISABEL ESTATE Pinot Gris, Marlborough Isabel Estate was established in Marlborough in 1980 and has some of the oldest vines in the region. Its Wairau Valley location receives the full benefit of extended sunshine hours combined with a long, relatively cool growing season. Yields are restricted by pruning to low bud numbers and, where necessary, shoot and bunch thinning ensures that fruit quality is fully optimised. The Isabel Pinot Gris style focuses on fruit purity and classic pear, elderflower and chalky mineral flavours. As leading New Zealand wine writer Bob Campbell MW says, Isabel Estate Pinot Gris is: Made in an off/dry style but with enough acidity to generate a fairly dry finish. Lovely wine.

Vibrant aromas of passionfruit, guava and tropical fruit, with a whiff of blackcurrant bud. The palate showcases classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc characters of passionfruit, blackcurrant and guava, the ripe fruit flavour is complemented by an intriguing saline minerality an underpinned with a focused, but approachable acidity. Our Bull Paddock Vineyard is located in the Dillons Point sub-region of Marlborough’s lower Wairau Valley. The land was originally used for raising bulls, before the Neylon family realised the potential of the site and planted it in Sauvignon Blanc. The young, free-draining, alluvial soils now produce grapes with elevated aromatics and ripe flavours. We believe this sub-region grows the best Sauvignon Blanc in all of Marlborough.

August Giesen (pronounced Aw-goost), born 1888, was a sommelier, restauranteur, hotelier, and a bit of a local legend in his native Germany. To Giesen Wines founders Theo, Alex, and Marcel, he was simply ‘Opa’. This elegant barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc displays all of the boundary-pushing characteristics of its namesake. Hand-picked and wild fermented with integrated oak, this complex and multi-dimensional wine is a fitting tribute to a legend. Fruit from two iconic Giesen vineyards make up The August Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2018 – our Matthews Lane and Dillons Point vineyards. Fruit from our Matthews Lane site adds rich ripe tropical notes, steely, wet pebble aromas and purity. Our organically-certified Dillons Point adds herbal notes, richness and structure. Wild yeasts add extra texture and build depth and length. With a tropical nose featuring passionfruit, guava and lime leaves, this is a multi-dimensional wine layered with toasty almonds, fresh brioche and incredible flinty notes. A carefully selected mix of seasoned German & French oak provides complexity and elegance.

MISHA'S VINEYARD The Starlet Sauvignon Blanc, Central Otago Mishas Vineyard is located on a spectacular site in New Zealand on the edge of Lake Dunstan in the Bendigo sub-region of Central Otago. The sun-drenched, north-west facing terraces of the 57 hectare estate provide optimal conditions for producing world-class Pinot Gris. A no compromise philosophy requires exacting viticulture regimes, hand-picking, and considerate winemaking methodologies. The fruit for this wine is hand-picked and whole bunch pressed. The free run and early press portion (70%) is handled anaerobically settled, racked, inoculated and then cool fermented in stainless steel without air contact. The remaining juice portion is handled more oxidatively and spends time in older French oak barrels where it goes through a spontaneous ferment. Blending the two components contributes complexity to both the flavour and texture of the finished wine, which typically shows exotically fragrant aromas of elderflower, lime and passionfruit and a rounded palate with tropical fruits and pineapple notes balanced by fresh citrus acidity.

Anna and Jason Flowerday run the Te Whare Ra vineyard in Marlborough according to organic and bio-dynamic practices. The fruit is picked and sorted by hand, then processed in a winery especially designed for small-batch wine-making. This dry Pinot Gris is finely structured with great purity and length of flavour. Lifted aromas of nashi pear, raspberry, red apple and white florals follow on to the palate, where they're balanced by a fine, supple texture and lingering minerality.
