Winemaker Kevin Mitchell has set a new benchmark for Clare Valley Shiraz. A nose of stewed plum and spice followed by generosity on the palate, all at a price that delivers great value for money.

The wine displays a complex aroma of lifted violets, red berries and mint with lovely cedary oak. The palate is brimming with rich plums, blackberries and subtle chocolate and earthy notes. The intense flavour is balanced by fine sandy tannins and spicy vanillin oak.

Medium red with a purple hue in the glass, Jim Barry The Forger Shiraz opens with a brooding array of purple fruits with a hint of violet lift then countered with notes of cinnamon and sweet oak char. The palate is packed with the rich brambly fruit which follows on from the nose. Fine, chalky tannins give the wine a plush, velvety texture that fills the length of the palate. The Forger has a rich, lingering, persistent finish and is ideal for cellaring.

Sourced from three vineyards at Leasingham in the Clare Valley this wine is a unique blend of three varieties originating from Spain - Tempranillo, Mourvedre and Grenache. That is why we call it 'The Spaniard'.

Deep red currant colour. Briar blackcurrants, ripe plums and chocolate. The central palate is black currant cassis with creamy oak and cedar. Elegant in structure, the cherry finish is savoury and velvet soft.

The Lodge Hill vineyard is a masterstroke of the Jim Barry range of wines. Adding yet another layer of complexity to this producer's arsenal, Lodge Hill (at 480m) is one of the highest vineyards in the Clare, and sends down a bath of chocolate infused blackberries with liquorice spice. The tannins are fine and elegant a hallmark of the varietal. The palate is well balanced, complex and fulfilling and lingers on the finish.
