The fruit for this impressive malbec is picked from young vines grown at altitude in Mendoza. The altitude contributes to the vitality of this generously flavoured red. There is good integration of oak whilst the wine remains focused on a fresh fruit profile on the palate, and is complemented stylishly by violet aromatics.

From the western end of the Barossa famed for growing rich and structured wines. The combination of Malbec and Cabernet lends structure and body to the blend. Cabernet brings spice, cedar and dried herbs while the Malbec adds blue fruits and chalky tannins.

A single vineyard site at 3500 metres in Agrelo Mendoza has produced a vivid 100% malbec displaying intense violet aromas over a core of red fruits with notes of cherries and raspberries . The wine shows excellent balance a fine backbone of fresh acidity and supple and elegant tannins from 14 months maturation in French oak barrels.

It’s no surprise this style won Gold. The Barry Family are legends in the Clare Valley, and have used their rich soils and expert skills to produce this truly stunning 100% malbec. Aromas of violets, redcurrants, maraschino cherries and lavender flood the nose. The flavours are plentiful with blueberries, liquorice, violets, dark chocolate and black tea. The wine is full of energy and juicy fruit supported by fine gravelly tannins and fresh cranberry juice acidity. This 100% Malbec shows the potential of the variety to stand on its own and produce a delicious wine with vibrancy and elegance. The first vineyard that my grandfather, Jim Barry, planted in 1964 at our Armagh property was Malbec (900 vines). Since that time, Malbec has played an important part in our winemaking journey and is predominantly blended with Cabernet Sauvignon. Argento Reserva Malbec has a dark violet color and offers concentrated aromas of black plums, black cherries, and blackberries. These vibrant black fruit flavors provide a pleasing weight on the palate, and the predominant French oak characters from 9 months of ageing are rounded off perfectly by a supple mouth texture.
